Secretaries help!!How do you work a typical office transfer telephone?

I just started working at a firm today as a runner, and one of my jobs is to answer the phone. I was given a very quick run-through course on how to transfer calls, etc. I was able to transfer calls fine, but I had trouble remembering how to transfer people to voicemails. I was too embarassed to find someone and ask how to do so, so I am now resorting to yahoo answers (go ahead and laugh). Could anyone either tell me how to do so or give me a website telling me all the functions? Do you press transfer+direct mail+the person's # or direct mail+the person's # or direct mail+transfer_the person's # ???? Thanks so much!!!!

It depends on the phone system. Every system is different. So no one here will know the proper answer.

You had to learn on the run. Grab a note pad, go to the person who trained you, and say "I've been doing great transferring calls, but I forgot how to do it to voicemail." Then write it down verbatim. If you can't find that person, call the IT person, they usually know that stuff.

Or ask for a manual, although what you are referring to is probably customized instructions and not in the manual.

Keep your note pad close by and take a ton of notes over the next week to prevent another situation like this from happening again.
