Tips when "Answering" the telephone call

iHOLA!

say "hello"

"Hello" usually works.

first introduce your self

Hello

No gum or candy in your mouth. And always smile. Learned this in and office procedures class. I'm not sure I would want to set and smile all day while answering phones though: )

Hello. Else a answering machine can help

Yes? Kriz's speaking.

Hi chapel of the woods, I`am the chaniter, god is busy how can I help you?

Do you mean in general, or for work? And are you asking for how to say the initial greeting, or how to deal with multiple lines?

A little more info, please.

in spain --digame

in u.s. --don't say that person doesn't want to talk to you. . .

my sister the actor-in-training used to call from the other line and talk in a different voice and ask for herself

[your sirname]'s residence.

Alexander Graham Bell said the only civilised way to answer the phone was by saying "Ahoy!" No one listened to him, and he invented it

always answer the phone positively! people can hear in your voice if your not happy. and you only ever get one chance to make a good impression!

Brief polite opening, talk about the matter and finally closing. For example: " Hallo... who's speaking ?... Sorry wrong number. Bye."

Smile! Then pick up the phone and say hello, and the person on the other end will hear the smile in your voice!

Answering the telephone depends on the situation.

Obviously, if someone is answering the phone at a place of business, or other professional organization, then that person needs to follow the phone policies of that organization.

If you are answering your personal phone, like a cell phone, for which you are the only user, it is acceptable to use casual greetings.

If you are answering a phone which is used by several people, including adults and their dependents, the the phone should be answered in a manner to clearly let the caller know the name used by all the members of the household (i.e. "Smith household."), to inform the caller that they have called the correct number.

This is how I should answer my phone.

Along with the info from this site Ive added some of my own experiences.
1. Answer the phone promptly. Have memo forms and a pencil handy. Also be aware of rings, earrings or other jewelry that may click or make noises on the phone.
2. Dont shout. Use a smooth pleasing voice. (Put a smile in your voice.)
3. Answer the phone at home by saying 鈥渉ello.鈥?Answer a business phone by stating the name of the business, then state your name. 鈥淒r. Coleman鈥檚 office. This is John. How may I help you?鈥?br> 4. Listen carefully to the caller. Ask politely to repeat the number or name if you dont understand it the first time. Repeat back the information to make sure you recorded it correctly.

5. Find the person the caller wants, direct the call to voice mail or take a message. (Use a memo form.)

6. Say 鈥淕oodbye, and thank you for calling XXX company鈥?and wait for the caller to hang up the phone before you hang up your receiver. Dont Slam down the phone.

Also..Familiarize yourself with transferring the phones, putting people on hold, transferring to voice mail ect. Have someone call you so you can practice.
Always have paper and pencil ready...nothing is more unprofessional than to say "hold on Im looking for pencil, paper..ect"
Remember YOU are the representative of the company you are working for...you are the "front line" Have a "Happy to be here" attitude!!!
Hope this helps!!!

Wish the caller a good day as per local customs.
If it is a business phone take the name of your firm/company otherwise introduce yourself taking your name followed by, "May I help You?"
In case it is a residential number just wish the caller a good day and ask him/her the purpose of call unless you have recognized the voice.
If the voice is easily recognized, talk intimately in a more frank and free manner depending upon your relationship with the caller.
