Listen hear you lot, who gets really p*ssed off with telephone cold callers?

It is 5.30 pm on a Saturday afternoon, I have just answered the phone whilst trying to cook the tea, a long silence then some guys voice asking for me, instantly knowing what this call was I asked what he wanted me for, his reply was I'm going to ask you a few questions, I told him he wasn't uless he wanted to pay my line rental, he asked why he should pay it, I told him if he insists on invading my privacy on a Saturday teatime, then if he pays the line rental he can ring me anytime he wants. Does this get up anybody elses nose?

Oh Meg Griffin your question about boots wasn't boring? or your long drawn out profile all about you? or your avator?

tell me about it i cant bloody stand them. it makes my blood boil. like were not busy enough as it is. and if they don't want to sell something they try and tell you how they can save you money? idiots.
i had one the other day who told me i had won a mobile phone. he said all i had to do was pay 拢20 a month for 12 months. so how had i won it exactly. i can walk in to any mobile phone shop and get a 'free' phone if i pay 拢20 a month. they do my head in.
ime glad someone else feels the same.

LONG STORY. BORING

It wrinkles my shorts, let me tell you.

"I don;t want a timeshare!"

It was your neighbor who has the hotts for you(-;

I hate that too.

Worst is my service provider sending me sms spam, asking me to use dialer tones, ring tones, blah blah blah that they are offering.

Next time that happens just don't speak but leave the phone off the hook for about 20 mins. That way it will tie up his line until you replace the phone.

i pass the phone to my young son

yes thats bad, you may report to police if you like.

No. Everyone has to try and earn a living. he's just doing the job he's been unlucky enough to land.
I always interrupt them in their shpeal and say, I appreciate what they are doing but I'm not interested. If they don't get it at that point, I say, "I'm going to hang up now," and I hang up. Not that hard really and I was polite and cool.
Takes all of about 15 - 20 seconds of my time.

Whenever I get calls like that I do things to annoy them. I say hello a bunch of times. Or I will ask them a bunch of questions like who they want to talk to, where are they, have they ever been abducted by aliens, when the last time they cut their toe nails, what color is their car, what type of laundry soap do they use....and so on. They usually get so irritated that they hang up.
Sometimes when I know it's just a cold caller I will answer the phone with a scream then start singing some weird song.
Then when they hang up I laught at them because I just pissed them off.

That's why we have caller ID on our phone, we can see who it is and if we don't recognize the caller, we don't answer, let them go to voice mail & leave a message. A solicitor will never leave a message, they want to speak to a live person to harass.

I don't know if the Do Not Call Registry is in effect where you live, but you can take yourself off the list of telemarketers for at least 5 years.

register with TPS then you can quote this when they call you and this means it is illegal for them to phone you again. They won't call again! you will find the link below

http://www.tpsonline.org.uk/tps/

no not really if they rang u its their phone bill so dont worry
i find it quite funny havin phone calls like that cause i know its not my phone bill they are runnin up lol also if some1 like that rings just leave the phone on the table cause once again its not ur phone bill they will hang up in the end or get bored lol

Well if you don't want people to bug you don't have a phone.

ARGH YES! Especially the ones who are trying to sell you something AND WILL NOT TAKE NO FOR AN ANSWER!!!!!!!!!

Very easy. Put the phone down straight away. If he calls again, tell him to desist as he is being a nuisance. If that doesn't work ask him to put you through to his supervisor.

I had an awful call last night where the caller took control over my telephone line and I was unable to cut off to free my line up.
This morning I registered with: http://www.tpsonline.org.uk/tps/ which is a legal scheme and these calls should cease after 28 days of registering.

Yeah for a while i continuously got calls on a sunday morning at 5am from someone in India enquiring about my mobile phone plan!!!! 5 in the morning??! Come on! I turned the volume down on my phone and descovered i had 17 missed calls when i woke up. It's harrassment. My dad keeps a whistle by the phone for calls like this and he hasn't been bothered by them for a wee while now! Lol

Yes specially the long silence

Ask for his number so you can call him back later

Gets up my nose, alright. I usually tell the person on the other end of the line that whoever they are asking for is not at home.

yeah i get at least 3 -5 week and they usually can't pronouse my surname either. when i asked one cold caller was she able to answer my questions you could tell that she had a script in front of her it, and then she had the cheek not to tell me to be so rude!! should be illegal for a company to cold call you like it is a no cold calling zone in my town and therefore you get no cold callers knocking on the door.

I hear you!

I now ask them the following:

"What is your company's name?"

"What is your name?"

"How did you get my number?"

"What mailing list EXACTLY?"

"Can I speak to your superior?"

and

"What's your company's registration number?"

That usually does the trick!
I used to be polite and tell them it was a really bad time, but the trouble with that is that they DO call you back!!

Always remember to tick "NO" to all mailing list options on anything you fill in - you never know when it'll come back to haunt you if you don't!

Yeah, sure!

Look up the telephone preference service on the net, then register your number with them. You may have to do this 2 or 3 times in a couple of months, but the calls will eventually stop.

yes it annoys me greatly specially on my cell phone...i'm on the do not call list and i still get slammed with phone calls by sales peeps. Had a call a couple weeks ago..I was nice and told the guy I was not interested and to take me off their calling list and I was hanging up now..he was still rambling when i hung up on him....musta been desperate! I know they are trying to make a living too but come on...some of them are seriously quite rude!

I agree totally it is really anoying but generally the person on the other end of the phone is just trying to make a crust. It's the system that's screwed up...We should take it to the "captains of Industry" and ask them what the HELL is going on? As for the calls, I politely deline and ask them not to ring me anymore.

Have a look at this

If these people are selling home improvements I always tell them I'm a tenant - tenants don't qualify for any of their offers so they take you off their phone list. If it's for mobile phones, etc., I speak to them in Welsh and they just hang up. If they ever got a Welsh speaker on to speak to me, I would switch to German, then French, etc. The ones that really wind me up are the ones that want you to set up a direct debit for a charity. I make a point of regularly giving to charities, but not the ones that employ people to phone you at home or hassle you on the streets. I always explain to them that I donate to a lot of charities and make a point of doing voluntary work in the community, I ask if they are volunteering or being paid (it's always paid) and then tell them that I will make a point of not donating to this charity in the future. It may sound harsh, but I'm on a low income and earn less than these people - I don't expect the money I donate to help children in third world countries to be used to pay the wage of someone who is already better off than I am. Charity has become big business and I'm finding the best way to be charitable is to do stuff for people in my own community - that's real charity these days.
