My work made me sign something that i am unsure of, if i am a victim of telephone scam can i be held liable?

Scammers called a few of our stores and ask various questions to the employee that answers
they tape the conversation and slice the tape to make it seem that the employee have authorized changes and accepted their fees

They made all employees of the company sign something that said, any cost to the company as result of an employee talking to a solicitor will be deducted from that employees pay.
we are to hang up if a solicitor calls.

is this legal even? i was unsure when i signed it, but i had to so i did.
any input would be helpful. thanks.

i understood it, i was just wondering if it is ethical and/or legal, i don't talk to the solicitors anyway, i play with them and say WHAT, WHAT and other things, or i just say stupid stuff or hang up on them, now i just hang up. why are some of you so rude?

Hi,

I work at a law firm and say that once you sign something it is binding unless you can prove that you were forced to sign it.

Unfortunately, the law allows for employers to do pretty much what they want to as far as video taping you , recording your phone conversations and reading your e-mail and tracking your time on the web and the websites you visited. The reasoning is that if you agree to work for them and use thier equipment to do so, they have a right to control and/or monitor your usage.

Now, if it was a scammer and you can prove it, you may not be liable. The company you work for would have to go after the scammers through the justice system in order to get that money back. Otherwise, since you signed it, unless you have an understanding boss, you will probably be liable.

Lesson learned, DO NOT SIGN ANYTHING YOU DO NOT UNDERSTAND NO MATTER WHAT. Your employer can't force you to sign something that you do not understand, he must give you clarification.Once you sign, it is legally binding. Its exactly why Paris could not get out of her jail time. She signed something and her "defense" was she didn;t know what she was signing.. Of course that didn;t work because that doesn't matter. Your signature is almost like legally acknowledging that you agree to the terms of what you are signing.

Now, why are people so rude? Because they were never taught to act any other way. Don't take it personally, actually you got to feel bad for people who can only react with rudeness and anger. Its knd of sad, really. They are missing out on a lot of good times and good people just to be hurtful to someone else. They'll end up alone if they don't learn how to be a little more empathetic.. So don't let it bother you.

You did something without the bosses OK.

You may be in HOT water

Nobody made you sign anything.

You chose to.

If you didn't understand it before you signed it, then it sucks to be you.

Never sign anything you don't understand.

Doesn't sound it, but that also depends on what state you are in also. If I were you, I would speak with the State Employment agency. They would know better then anyone else. They may even have something online for you to look at.

Interesting. So it is easier to collect from the employee than to go after the perpetrators of the fraud. Doesn't seem kosher. Your company should work with their employees to solve the problem not dump the whole thing in your lap.

yes you are liable because you did not make sure what it is

IF you signed something stating that you would be held accountable, then you are my friend. I believe by law you are only REQUIRED to sign for your paycheck (time sheet) which is not always the case, but they cannot FORCE you to sign anything. I would have to research to know for sure, but I'll link a site for you regarding employee rights.

I get this at my office all the time.

Someone calls, saying they are so-and-so from "customer service" and asking how much toner we have in the copy machine. When I ask what company they are calling from, they hang up.

NEVER say yes, or agree to anything. When someone calls up and is a solicitor, ask them for the name and address of their company. Most of the time, if they are legit, they will give it. You can then tell them, No, thank you and hang up on them. If they aren't legit, they will hang up when you ask for the name and address of their company.
