Am I having a setback?

I have been diagnosed with PTSD and I take 30mg of Paxil. I am moving from one state to another this coming weekend. As the time to move gets closer, the more I want to be left alone. I don't want to answer my telephone, I get irritated, agitated, frustrated, and confused more. My nightmares have returned and I don't know how to make them stop. Please serious answers only.

Well, considering the big changes in store for you soon , no wonder your feelin' yukky. We don't do moves everyday and especially to another state! I take Paxil too and I hate change. I love being on vacation, but will stress out over it for days. And find reasons in my head why not to go. When I'm really uptight that even the Paxil seems to be no match for, I get "choking" dreams. I think," Here I go again!". But we have to remember real stress is just that...real. So, hold on to your nerves, ask doc for a sedative if needed, and go find your new adventure!

Please see your mental health care provider. The dosage on your medication may need to be uped. This is a stressful, anxious time for you and you need to take things slowly and get the support you need.

God Bless!

Moving is stressful. PTSD is a stress-sensitive disorder. Makes sense that your symptoms would increase.

Use your best coping strategies, the ones you pull out in times of stress. They should help. Tell your MD and therapist as well.

Moving is enough to cause anyone anxiety and manifesting itself in the symptoms you mentioned. You can take back some of the control by sitting down and writing a to do list for moving. Prioritize the list, do the most important things first, like leaving a mail forwarding address with the post office collecting important papers, then break it down to what you think you can accomplish each day so the job of moving is not so overwhelming. You'll feel more relaxed when you see you can handle this and if you have time left over, get on the web and see what you can find out about the new town if you are unfamiliar. Hope this helps.

Sounds normal to find major life changes a little stressful. I think you could use some healthy exercise, watching your diet, and being good to yourself. You can try taking some Valerian to help you sleep, but considering the circumstances, your reaction sounds normal.
