Are there any free websites to locate a person for child support and to file a divorce?

I have been separated from my husband at least six years. We have one child together. The only time he calls is when he when he wants to try to get back together. I refuse to because he is on drugs, an alcoholic, and verbally and physically abusive. Now it has came down to where the only way that I can finish college( to get my financial aid) is to file a divorce. The problem is that I can not find him. His mother stated that he is homeless and that she doesn't know where he is. His sister refuses to answer her telephone for me. The Child Support Office has closed my case because they can't locate him. When he works, he finds jobs that pay him under the table. I need to file my divorce papers this month. I don't have all the money that is needed. It will cost $80.00 dollars to file in court and $80.00 to run an ad in the paper. Of course, I am a single mother and have other bills that have to be paid. What can I do? I feel lost. I have even called and ask the courts. No luck!!! HELP

It is a very sad situation for you and I am so sorry that you are having such a hard time.

There aren't any free web sites that I know of, but there may be other ways to get help.

Try talking to a legal aid society in your area.

Make some calls and see if you can find a lawyer who will work pro bono or on a reduced payment plan.

Seek help from friends, family and local charities, women's groups or churches. Maybe no one person or group can help cover all your expenses, but together they might be able to swing it.

Ask the paper to run the ad for free, expalining your situation might generate sympathy and help.

I have never heard of a child support case being closed because they cannot locate the father. As long as he is the legal father, there should still be an active case and arrears piling up. If you need to, talk to a lawyer about this, as well. As long as you have a case against him with arrearage owed, if he comes into money or gets his life straight, you are entitled to a share of that money for the years he did not pay. He may never have a single cent, but just in case....

File on grounds of desertion. As for child support, don't expect anything there. It would be better for your child for you to adopt him, sever his parental rights and go on with your lives. Get a second, part time job to take care of the legal fees, then quit and just keep on loving yourself and your younguns.

In some states you can serve papers at his normal place of residence with someone who is 18 years of age or older who can give him a message about the papers being left. Some states allow you to run a newspaper ad in the town where he lived last for a certain number of days. You should call Legal Aid or an attorney and ask them how you can get him served.
