Breeder refuses to send AKC papers?

Bought a male rottweiler about 8 months ago. the dog is beautiful and a great pet but the breeder has not yet sent the papers. We have called him millions of times and at first he said he would send them but now he just does not answer the telephone. What should I do?

I paid almost $2,000 for the dog and although I am not breeding him I think I have a right to the papers

Unless you have something in writing stating he was AKC registerable there is not much you can do. If you don't have a writtne contract did you purchace him through and ad you found? If so did is state the puppies were AKC resisterable? If so get a copy of the ad it may be your saving grace. If it was from a paper your library or the newspaper should have back issues archived so you can get a copy there, if it was from a magizine and you no longer have a copy call the publisher and ask them to send you a copy of the add or check with them and see if they have back issues avaliable for purchase. You will need all the documentation you can get because you are will have to take the breeder to small claims court to either get the papers or a partial refund on the dog if he was sold as registerable and is not. If you don't have some sort of written documentation it will be your word against his. No matter what I would recommend reporting him to the Better Business Buearu. The AKC cannot force him to turn over the papers but you may want to contact them anyway. If they get enought complantes on a breeder or a serious enough complaint they can withdraw that breeders rights to register there dogs or any dogs of there breeding. This unforutnatly is an example of why you need to make very sure you are dealing with a reputable breeder. Good Luck but either way I'm glad you are enjoying your dog.

report to the better business bureau. call a lawyer.

Are you wanting to breed the dog? If not I would not worry about the papers.
If you are wanting to breed him then I would get a lawyer.
I hope it all works out for you.

We used to breed labradors and we always had the papers ready when we sold the puppies. I would contact the AKC and ask if the litter was ever registered. They would be able to help you with this problem.

Did you contact the AKC and talk to them??

It sounds like the breeder was full of bs and probably doesn't have any papers. Your only choice would probably be to take him to small claims court.

Send him a letter certified male, return receipt. Do you have a signed contract stating that papers would be supplied? If you do, then you can take him to small claims court. Contacting the AKC will not help you at all. If you have the signed contract where it states that papers will be supplied, then you should photocopy the contract and highlight the sections needed. Tell him that he has 10 days to answer or you will take him to small claims court.

The AKC will not give out any information to you about this breeder and a litter if you do not have the litter registration number.

If you know the name of the parents of your pup, contact the AKC.

I suspect that:
1) your dog was never registered as part of a litter
2) your dog's parents are not registered
3) the breeder claims they are registered to charge more for the pups.

You can go to the akc to see if they can help. They should be able to search by a combination of the breeder's name and the dam's name and the breeder's name and the stud's name. Give them full information. Name, address, city/state, phone # of breeder and as much information you can give on the dam and stud.

ALSO.. at the AKC website, go to the breed club and find the breed club for the state where the breeder lives. Report this breeder to the Rottweiler club for your area/state. They need to know that this breeder is cheating customers.

I would contact the AKC and let them know what is happening. Chances are that the puppies were never registered.

You're probably not the only person that this has happened to.

We bought our puppy from a breeder and he had the papers and the papers for the mico chip ready for us to take home when we bought her.

You can report them directly to AKC. They in turn will notify the Breeder that there has been a letter received about not releasing the AKC papers. If the Breeder doesn't come up with a ligament excuse, they can have their right to register future puppies rejected.

If you know the names of the parents I would suggest you contact AKC and ask if these parents have had a litter on the date the breeder told you pups were born, then advise AKC of your problem,if breeder still won't give you papers go to every free site you can get on and list this person as a scammer, and certinately the site you found the pet on before you purchased. The site for AKC is http://www.akc.org also ,here is a link to a site that has many free sites. If you need others, just e-mail me from this site http://www.cashmasters.com/html/free_ad_...

Call AKC and report him!! If you got a contract that promises an AKC registered pup, take him to court! Bad breeders do this all the time and think they can get away with it, don't let him!

Contact the an attorney and the AKC in that order.

contact the AKC, and the Better Business Bureau, then call an attorney if still no answer. its not a good sign that breeder is avoiding you.

Send him a letter stating you are taking him to Small Claims
Court. Because of the stress you have been put through you will seek the maximum allowable in punitive damages. Depending where you are you could sue for
5 to 10 thousand dollars. There is no excuse for his actions.
Best Wishes,

Wood

SUE or get on ol judge judy she will smack him around

HI! I am a breeder and trainer and i show and compete AMERICAN BULLDOGS,for over 20yrs, But when I started Bred Rottie's and I had to learn the hard way,[I spent ALOT of money on this show Female, and they said they will forward the papers[Which i never got] and i contacted the AKC, and i took them to court and even was told by a judge !- I learned that if you don't have a Written Contract, you don't have anything! so like someone else wrote to you if you are not going to breed, then don't worry so much, But i do not agree that they told you you will receive them, so I would report the kennel name and personal name, to the BBB , and since my days of being taken I also learned that you can go for theft by deception, you were promised the papers with the purchase of the puppy[hopefully you got a receipt for the dog]. GOOD LUCK!!

Yes, if you purchased a dog and the breeder stated it will be akc registerable you should be getting the registration at some point.

What you should do depends on what type of contract you signed.

Many breeders withhold the registration until after proof is given that the dog is spay/neutered ... this is within AKC guidelines *if* the contract you signed when you purchased the dog explicitly says so.

If you did not sign a contract that says the registration is withheld.. you'll need to contact the AKC with the name of the breeder as well as the date of birth of the pups and the names of the sire and dam. AKC will then contact the breeder.

Please don't let them get away with this!! They are scammers and need to be stopped or they will keep on scamming others!!! You paid too much money to let this slip through the cracks!!!

Hello:

I certainly hope when you purchased the dog you had a written agreement with the breeder, it should have specified the sire and dam of the puppy and that registeration is pending.

I live in Canada and I know you can go to the CKC here and usually they are very helpful so I would suggest contacting the AKC . Also I would send the breeder a registered letter outlining your concerns. As a breeder in Canada we have to get the registration papers to the purchaser within a six month time period, and I imagine your AKC has a similar time frame.

If all else fails I would go to a small claims court. The most important thing of all I hope you have some form of documentation from the breeder.

He probably never even had the papers, and just claimed that the dogs were AKC registered to try and make money.
