We are commanded in 1 Corinthians 16:13, 鈥淲atch ye, stand fast in the faith, quit you like men, be strong.鈥?Years ago, when I was just a young preacher-boy, Chick Tract had an interesting tract called 鈥淏ig Sissy.鈥?I do not remember what the tract was about, but I do remember that the title 鈥淏ig Sissy鈥?really caught my eye. I have never wanted to be labeled a sissy. My father was a rough and tough marine who saw action during the Korean War as one of the 鈥淔rozen-Chosen鈥?in the Chosin Reservoir. He was no sissy, and he did not want his boy to be a sissy either.
Were you as turned off by Spain and France as I was, when you heard about their decision to pull out of the war because of their casualties? Did Spain not think that they would suffer some type of loss in war? I mean-come on-if you are going to fight, you are going to get some blood on you from time to time; and some of that blood will be your own. Perhaps they should have read Luke 14:31: 鈥淥r what king, going to make war against another king, sitteth not down first, and consulteth whether he be able with ten thousand to meet him that cometh against him with twenty thousand.鈥?As far as France goes, did we really expect them to get involved in war? Think about it; they could not drive the Germans out of their own country during World War II. If it were not for the United States of America, France would be speaking German today. I think they both are Big Sissies.
I believe the trend that we see in Spain and France can be seen in fundamentalism today. I am quite concerned that part of the problem with our churches today is that many pastors have, like Spain and France, just become Big Sissies! Oh, they will get in their pulpits to preach and scream out about the compromise of a 鈥淛erry Falwell.鈥?They will preach out against the 鈥淛immies鈥?of their day, such as Jimmy Bakker, Jimmy Swaggart, and Jimmy Jones; but God forbid that they address the issues in their own church or in their own fellowship.
I am afraid that some pastors become Big Sissies when it comes to addressing certain people, such as the chairman of the deacon board, Sunday school teachers, bus captains, or others in positions. Pastor, when was the last time you said to your deacons, 鈥淣o, we are not going to do that!鈥?Hey, Pastor, do you realize that God has named you as the 鈥淥verseer鈥?of the church? Well, if you are the 鈥淥verseer,鈥?then you had better oversee the work of the ministry because God is holding you accountable for that ministry. Hey, why don鈥檛 you give the 鈥淛erry鈥檚鈥?and the 鈥淛immies鈥?a break and address the real issues in your own back yard! Why don鈥檛 you address the unfaithful Sunday school teachers, bus captains, and children鈥檚 church workers? Why don鈥檛 you address their lack of devotion and their need to be soulwinners? You must deal with these certain people and stop being a Big Sissy!
I am afraid that some pastors become Big Sissies when it comes to addressing certain places. It is amazing to me how some Pastors are more dedicated and devoted to their alma mater than to the cause of Christ. I feel sorry for men that are such 鈥渕en-pleasers鈥?that they will not even pastor their church. They only invite certain men to preach, and that is only after they have the blessing from Dr. Big Shot from the University. Doesn鈥檛 the Bible state clearly in Ephesians 6:6, 鈥淣ot with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart;鈥? Many years ago, I had a dear friend tell me that his alma mater had contacted him and told him that he was not to have Dr. John R. Rice preach for him. After he had received that telephone call, he knew that he had to have him, or else he would be bowing and answering to 鈥淢ecca鈥?for the rest of his life. You must deal with these certain places and stop being a Big Sissy!
I am afraid that some pastors become Big Sissies when it comes to addressing certain principles. I am speaking of Bible principles of holiness and separation! We are commanded to be holy, aren鈥檛 we? Isn鈥檛 this what Peter meant in 1 Peter 1:15-16: 鈥淏ut as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.鈥? I had a dear person ask me just a few months ago, 鈥淧astor, why do you have be this way?鈥?鈥淲hat way was he speaking about?鈥?you may ask. It was the way of separation and holiness. I told him I had to be that way because that was the way I believed. It is the Bible way! Amen! I still believe that boys ought to look like boys and girls ought to look like girls. I still believe, 鈥淚t is good for a man not to touch a woman鈥? that is, unless they have a license to do so 鈥?a marriage license! I still believe that pants are for men, and that ladies鈥?dress ought to determine distinction and modesty. Hey, Pastor, when you were in Bible college, you believed it too; but now you do not have the support of the college staff or the security of the chapel services, and you have become a Big Sissy.
May this article exhort us all to 鈥渆arnestly contend for the faith.鈥?God help us to stand and fight for truth and righteousness! Oh, I know it can be lonesome in the ministry. I understand that we will get bloody if we involve ourselves in warfare. I also realize that, when we fight, some of that blood will be our own blood. However, it is a good fight that we fight! I would rather be found bleeding and fighting for right, than be found coasting through life, standing for nothing, and being a Big Sissy. May the Lord find each of us faithfully fulfilling 1 Corinthians 16:13: 鈥淲atch ye, stand fast in the faith, quit you like men, be strong.鈥?/div>

I'm not reading now. Just answering the question. Yes and No. It depends on which brother is talking. To the older one, I am a little sissy; but to the younger one, yes, I am a big sissy. I would really like people to refrain from asking judgemental questions like this one. Report It
compared to god yes im a sissy and proud of it lol I prefer the term girly-man. Your posts are getting way to verbose. I skip over 90% of your blah, blah, blah. i didn't read that whole thing, but i'm sure that it's chocked full of scripture goodness.
i read some of it, and my question to you is: are you gonna get out there and fight for your country?
"if you wanna make an omlet, you gotta break a couple eggs." but at whose expense? do you personally know anyone who has gone to war? do you personally know anyone who has died in that war? many, many, many people are dying for what cause, really? and you sit back and judge people for not wanting their loved ones or themselves to die while trying to kill. i applaude their non-violent nature and hope that someday more people will see it that way (including those that "run" our country).
if i'm a sissy for not wanting to pick up a gun and aiming it at someone who is aiming a gun back at me, then pulling the trigger in hopes that i get them before they get me...
i'll be that. I have to say you do have a point. All of that said, no I'm not a sissy. I say bring it on! I'm not afraid to get dirty or bloody. Why do you ask a short question as an excuse to go write a whole book of stories and philosophies? People are complaining so please be reasonable.
But no, I鈥檓 not a sissy. And if something pisses me off I鈥檒l say it. Even if I feel God is being difficult I won鈥檛 hesitate to complain. How about a little compassion, my dear evangelist, on all these school bus drivers and children's church workers. After all, you have the bodies of three men and two women in which to stuff oodles of holiness and courage...have some pity on the benighted masses which must try to do the Lord's work with only one corporal incarnation...Of course we're all going to be sissies next to you! speak to the point.tracks are small that hits home much more preach it, brother! meek does not mean weak. |
