Do men actually think women SHOULD do the domestic tasks?

I work with three men and one other woman, who works part time.. Her and I are more 'practically' busy on a daily basis..In that, I answer all mail, up to 100 letters a day, emails, telephone, scan documents, type letters, etc etc the men's job is to obtain quotes and meet clients...

Whenever anything remotely domestic requires doing, it is me that has to do it...or the other lady, when she's in. Eg.. the men all like to drink 4 cups of tea/coffee a day.... (i drink 0) I am expected to make it, I am expected to hoover the floor, polish everyones computer screens... the men do it never...

If I dont do it..I get a talking to..About hirachy, my job.. and what's expected...although this is not written anywhere in my contract.. This morning, one of them actually said to me, whilst I was making his tea, 'well, its more a womens thing' im more a business man.. I was speechless.. I have a 1st class degree, he has near!!
Do lots of men actually think this???

(I will just add, I am a qualified Health care worker, due to NHS funding, have not got a job in this at present and so work for a relative in an Financial Advisor centre. Having tried in vain for months to get other employment...this literally is all I could get within an hour of my home...therefore leaving is not really an option..as im waiting for my local hospital to give me position..hopefully before christmas)

I am interested in any opinions if its your real thought and not rude.

If only women did the domestic work my boyfriend and I would live in a very disgusting house.

I dont think men think women should do it, I just think they realise that women do it better.

im terrible round the house. whenever i tidy and clean the missus always redoes it because "its not to her standard"

nuff said.

The only thing I can suggest is that working with family is never a good idea! The boundaries are too easily crossed, if you were not related you could and probably would take him to court for sexual discrimination!

I have always maintained that as I don't drink tea at work I don't make it. Make a stand, if you don't then people will take advantage. Tell them you've done some research into getting a cleaner, that'll frighten them!

yes i think u should all the house work cooking, and let us men get on with our lives. U women have it so easy just sitting watching soaps all day on tv then moaning what a long day u have had.

i feel domestic tasks are more a woman's terrain at home. at work though it's a different issue. obviously if it's part of the job description - general upkeep of the office, helping management, then tht's wht the job is. however, i dont think those responsbilities should fall on you just because your a woman. maybe bring it up at the next staff meeting withought coming across as too aggressive. if they want a cleaner or tea maker, then they should hire someone to do just those jobs

Well in our house my husband helps with the daily chores and we are both working. But I think most men expect the women to do the housework. Some men are still traditional.

I personally think the only work that is a womans is pregnancy and birth, as men can't physically do it.

I think men can wash dishes, clothes, hoover, polish, do the shopping and whatever other domestic chores there are. I do plenty at home and I always, absolutely always make the tea. My wife just doesn't like brewing up, so I do it.

The only men that don't do any of these things are the ones who have women around who will do them for them. It's actually the women who have the power here. All you have to do is say no.

If you don't drink tea or coffee then let them get their own. Stop hoovering and dusting. If they tell you about hierarchy then tell them about sexual discrimination.

I used to live in a house with 3 other guys and they definately expected me to do the cleaning, this was compounded by the fact I worked shifts so I was apparently home and at a loose end while they were out being busy and working- regardless that I might be busy working while they were at the pub!
I get frustrated with my husband I live with now, we had a bit of a fuss about it this week, and when I got upset about the state of the house he was genuinely surprised and even a little relieve, confessing he had been wondering if he had to do anything in the evenings this week but couldn't think of anything- my head is constantly going; ironing, kitchen floor, bathroom, clean surfaces, garden, tody room....... round and round! I think he genuinely doesn't notice, his friend gave us plums recently and I said I didn't want them, didn't have the time for jam making, but he could do it if he didn't expect help. Which he did. Only I have been scrubbing floors, counter tops and cupboards, and even the kettle every evening this week as I find more splatters!

Yeah, why not! That's all they're good for. They should be told to hold their tongue as well! :<)

Yes they do, I blame their parents or else it's in there genes - born lazy.

Some men think that.

My husband is one of the more enlightened one's.

He feels that the workload should be shared, and recognises that women are capable of doing so much more than menial domestic tasks.

Therefore he allows me to help with DIY around the house and allows me to go out and earn the most money and look after the family finances, and knows I can get the car fixed and do all the other jobs that men do in a traditional household.

So he's half way there, now all he's got to do is recognise that men can use a duster, pick up an iron and use a washing machine.

Amazingly he learned how to cook! But only because if he hadn't he would starve!!!!!

Eventually he may get so fed up of creases in his clothes that he may do something about that too.

Moral: You only get treated how you allow other ppl to treat you.

Of course you should do the majority of the menial household tasks and i will explain to you why.
...1. Why do women get married in white?....Because all domestic appliances are white.
...2. What does w.i.f.e. stand for......?
..........W ashing
.......... I roning
.......... F ucking
.......... E ct.

You should get out your employment contract and wave it in their face, and point out that it isn't on the men's contracts either, but yet you have to do these 'women's' jobs.

And you should go to the papers about it. It's a disgrace that men should be allowed to say such things in this day and age.

Because my wife works much harder than I do, I wash the dishes, iron my own shirts, see to the plants.

I used to do more until my back finally gave in.
