Is it to soon for my daughter to date?

My 13 year old daughter recently told me she has a boyfriend that's 14 years old. I'm not sure how to approach this matter as a mother. I am trying to be very supportative toward her decision on having a boyfriend. Last night he asked to speak me via telephone briefly. I asked him a few questions about himself. Her answered very intelligently with confidence. I guess I'm afraid that she will be influenced by the wrong person. Is it normal for me to feel this way?

It is very normal to feel this way. As long as they are not taking their realtionship too seriously, there shouldn't be a problem. Just hanging out and stuff is fine. If you feel she is too young , you have to know your daughter and what she is capable of. Think long and hard about your final decison. Try not to leave then alone in the house either (Unsupervised) or let them go to his house ot a friends house alone. Watch this situation carefully and think wisely.

I wasn't allowed to date until I was 16, and my parents were pretty lax. I personally don't think a mother needs to be supportive of a 13 year old girl getting with a boy! Mom, she's 13 years old! He's 14 and full of hormones. Think about it!!

I think 13 is too young. My parents begrudgingly allowed me to date when I turned 16. And with all the drama dating introduced me to I would've been better off if they didn't allow me to date at all.

it is and also it is'nt because when she feels like she can handle it that's no problem but when you she can't handle it and when you no that the boy is bad don't let her move a fingure towards that relationship think about it and please select mine as bestwhy bcos i dont have any point in best

I think it's at every parents discretion. Not all teenagers are the same. Some are more mature than others. It sounds like he is a decent boy if he wanted to speak to you. I'm sure plenty of us would like to say, hell no, 13 is way too young, but lets face reality here. A 13 year old girl is obviously going to be interested in boys. A good parent, I think, would chaperon some dates for the two of them (bowling alley, movies, etc.) or even take a group of the kids out somewhere fun. The simple fact of the matter is this. Although we have to set rules and keep our kids grounded, we can't inhibit who they are and who they like either. By not allowing this natural curiosity that happens at this tender age, we only make our kids dislike us. Not that it's all about getting our kids to like us, but don't we want them to talk to us about what's going on in their lives? I think at the point that they become teenagers we have to assume some kind of friendship role with them, or they will never tell us anything! And, I for one, want to know who my daughter likes, what she does with her friends, etc, etc.

While it is nice for her to have a male 'friend', she is too young to have a Boyfriend let alone be romantically serious about any boy.

Any 'dates' should be doubledates or well supervised and if she is going to have him in the house, then the door to the room they are in needs to stay open.

Set the rules and be firm.
