Math? algebra?

hey guys im having some trouble with these 3 algebra questions im not sure how to figure them out. so if you can

You are riding your bicycle. It takes you 12 min to go 2.5 mi. If you continue traveling at the same rate, how long will it take you to go 7 mi?

A 3.5-ft child casts a 60-in. shadow. She is standing next to a telephone pole that casts a 50-ft shadow. How tall is the telephone pole?

The scale of a map is 3 in. : 20 mi. Find the actual distance if the map distance between two towns is 5.5 in.

Ah...Algebra. I miss these kind of questions. They are really quite easy to do if you set them up right. Okay...

Problem #1: this is a simple ratio problem. All you have to do is cross multiply. Set it up like this:
2.5 mi = 7mi
12min = X
Now multiply 2.5 and X, then 12 and 7 to get 2.5X=84. Divide 84 by 2.5 to get your answer (X=33.6 min).

Problem #2: Another simple ratio. Set up the problem in the same way:
3.5 ft = X
(convert in. into ft.)5 ft = 50 ft
Cross multiply (5X=175) and divide for your answer(X=35 ft).

Problem #3: Same thing:
3in. = 20 mi
5.5 in = X
Cross multiply (3X=110) and divide for your answer (36 2/3 mi.)

1. 7 mi/ 3.5 mi= 2.8. so it takes 2.8 times longer to ride 7 miles. so 2.8 times 12 = 33.6 mi.

2.The girl and the pole make similar triangles. 60 inches is 5 feet. so 3.5/5=x/50, .7=x/50, x= 35 feet.

3. Okay so you have a map, the scale is 3 in. You need to know the relation between 5.5 and 3.
5.5 divided by 3 is 1.8, 1.8 multiplied by 20 is 36 and 2/3 miles.
