Why is HP software on windows XP not compatible with the cingular edge card? |
I have an HP 4 in 1 and an hp digital camera. When either of those are loaded onto my laptop, windows will not recognize my wireless cingular edge card and I cannot get online. I had to do a complete recovery without installing any HP software to be able to load the cingular and get online. This took hours and hours of telephone tech help from cingular, HP and misc. techs available to me and with no answers. I contacted a tech friend and he found there were several corrupt windows files. We did a complete recovery, reloaded everything except HP and the cingular wireless worked and is working fine. He said there had to be something in the HP software that corrupted my files and did not allow access to the cingular execute file. If anyone has any answers I would love to be able to install my printer and camera on my laptop. We were having the same problem at work with our Verizon Wireless PC cards! The only way that I could get our internet/LAN to continue working was to install ONLY the driver for the wireless card...not the software pack. I had Verizon Wireless send me the individual file for the cards drivers. After I received the driver I set it up just like a modem (since that is all it is). I no longer have the pretty Verizon menu showing the connection and strength but heck it worked! I don't know the answer. My camera works fine on my computer, but nothing is the same. Call them at this #1-800-474-6836 That is HP Help!!! this is a question for a specialist, sorry. There should not be a conflict between a printer and a network card, especially in windows XP where most everything is plug and play. The HP software should not have corrupted any vital windows files by itself. I would do a complete virus scan and adware/spyware scan just to make sure there isn't some rogue program that may have corrupted those files. Also check the integrity of your hard drive, if any sectors are going bad then the data saved on those sectors will become corrupt. Then try to re-install the HP printer. If for some reason it isn't plug and play (which is highly unlikely) then there may be an IRQ conflict. That may have been common 10 years ago running Windows 3.1 or 95, but I doubt that is the problem with XP. Have you tried contacting Cingular? Is this the only way you go on line or does it work fine when you go on line using broadband? How old is your computer? Can HP give you new software? Sounds like a software issue. |
