I live in an rural area without high speed Internet access. Can I remotely access a computer with hs access?

I live rural. Can I put a computer online in an area with high speed access, get a static ip address, and use one of the remote access programs to access the high speed computer, and have the data come back to me high speed. Other than satellite, is there any other way to get hs access. ISDN is quite expensive, so probably not viable. As an aside, how do I determine where the central office providing me telephone service is located? The first question is the most important to find an answer for. Thanks, Dick

No. You're speed is determined by the throughput of your current connection.

There is no wireless signal that can reach much further than 300 feet.

If you have a good wireless router yes any body can get highspeed. try comcast

You are limited by the bandwidth of your connection to the network. The bottleneck would exist between the system in the high speed area to your computer. Thus, I think it would not work.

I do not think so, because when you remote someone's computer you still need high speed internet connection. therefore, is it possible for that. But, you can use logmein.com to remote a computer. You can try it.

Q1A: you could probably use the LAN option. What that is, is the Local Area Network program/shortcut on your computer in your START Menu. You will have to click on it to enable it (it will say first enabling, followed by enabled). I don't know what a 'static' ip address is. By ISDN (I'm not familiar with this term but...) I presume you mean the Internet Service Dailing Network? I also don't know how to determine the central office providing the tele service for you. The only other way--besides satellite--to get hs Internet, is through your local cable company if you have one. hope this helps ya!
