I have just bought a handset for skype. my speaker settings are all over the shop now!?

ok. i have just bought a telephone style handset for skype. i can only use it in one of the rear usb ports for a start right. but now.. i can only listen to music through the telephone reciever. i have gone through all the settings on my pc and stuff but its either one or the other. if you seriously know what i'm on about and know how to configure it then answer me please. if you just 'think' you know.. don't bother! thanx

I had a similar problem a few months ago when i installed a tesco internet phone
after you install the software and drivers for your skype phone the software has changed the defualt sound device ,its something to do with the audio playback on your skype phone
go to start>control panel>sounds and audio devices>go to the audio tab then to sound playback, you may notice that the default device has changed and is now possibly a usb device of some kind, what you need to do is using the drop down box, drop the box down and select your normal audio playback device and when its been selected press apply ,before you press ok to leave check the sound recording and midi music settings,if these have also been changed ,correct these to their correct settings and again press apply to save these settings
finally go to the next tab"voice" and check the recording setting, again if altered reset them to their proper setting and press apply
however the problem being here is now you have your default sound settings back, you may have lost your skype handset settings
but as i have not used a skype handset i cant be sure about this, once you have done all the sound settings then give the skype handset a go and see if there are any problems,if there is none then all is ok
however if you experience problems all i can suggest is when you use the skype you will ahve to go into the sounds and audio options and change them each time you need to make a call, for ease of access why not right click "sounds and audio devices"and place a shortcut on the desktop
i hope this is of some assistance, like i say i am comparing your skype handset to a similar usb phone
good luck mate!

Fair enough i wont bother it is your computer after all.
