Need help with my Geology Lab book Laboratory Manual In Physical Geology seventh edition p.235-239?

I have a teacher who does not help much.... give us the sheet and walks out on his telephone. I have read this part from the beginning to the end several times and just can't grasp what they are saying or trying to ask. If ANYONE has this manual and has already done this, could you maybe dumb it down for me a little? I'm not asking for the answers so don't tell me to do my own homework please. It is page 235 #4 (a, b) #5 (a, b, c, d, e), #10 (a, b, c), #11 (a, b), #13 (a, b), #14, #15, #16 (i got 7.18 ft/yr. just wanna know if that is right), #19 (i got 4.67 ft/yr), 20 (a (1 ft above), b (180 ft below)), #21, #22, #23, #24, #25. I know this is a lot and again I'm not asking for answers but just for you to maybe dumb it down for me in terms of explaining what everything is and what the colors on the maps represent. I have been having a HORRIBLY hard time in this class because of his teaching method and if it explains anything this is his first year teaching and only 3 people are passing

it is edited by richard m. busch and illustrated by dennis tasa. it is laboratory 12, groundwater processes, resources, and risks. i don't understand what subsidences are like how to get the greatest area, artesian wells (like where they would be), how to tell where limestone crops out on a map labeling solutions, how to tell on that map what a disappearing stream is, converting maps and numbers to get feet miles an meters, just everything really.

I just might have an earlier edition of that book. Who are the authors? What is the topic being discussed? You might get better results if you post your questions about what you don't understand.

Add: Nuts, different book. It was a long shot anyway.

Subsidence- This is when the ground sinks. In the context of ground water, this can be caused by pumping out ground water using wells. The water in the ground is taking up space between grains of sand, clay, whatever (referred to as pore space). Think of a box of eggs. The eggs cannot fit close together because of the round shape. The pore space would be the foam filling in the space between the eggs. Sometimes when that water gets pumped out of the pore space, the grains compact, and the end result it that the ground settles and sinks. There is a classic picture demonstrating this.

The ground sank (subsided) something like 20 feet in 50 years from irrigation of crops in the California valley.

Then lets see, you've got some karst topography going on too. Okay karst topography is a kind of landscape. Key features are sinkholes, disappearing streams, and springs. Karst topography indicates limestone under the surface. Water/groundwater dissolves limestone. This can create empty or water filled spaces underground. A disappearing stream is a stream that flows above the ground to a point and then flows into one of these underground cavities. On a map the stream will appear to end abruptly (no lakes or ponds, it'll just dead end). Remember that the countour lines will point upstream or towards the source (Rule of Vs) of the stream. Since the topographic maps only show the surface, the stream just appears to disappear.
Try looking at this website for more info on karst.

And here's one for Artesian wells:

That's about all I can do right now. It's hard to explain without being able to draw. Try to get a study group going or something. Find a geology major and offer them pizza for a tutoring session. Sorry your having such trouble. Hopefully this helped a little.

Add: without the questions (I don't have the same book) I can't confirm your answers, sorry
