Best broadband package? |
My mother has a new computer and needs to use e:mail for her job. Her telephone company is OneTel. She is in Northants, UK. She is an absolute technophobe. I have tried setting her up with tiscali and that is difficult to log on to, so, need something else. Please suggest something simple for her. Light user. Thanking you in anticipation of answers. Computer is a Packard Bell with Windows Vista. Virgin cable is great & doesn't have all the fair usage policies found with the ADSL ISPs. I use talktalk and we have just switched our Grandparents onto it too. They can take over the line rental and the phone and then you get broadband free. We pay around 拢30 a month which is for line rental, all phone calls and broadband. they all provide the same srevice (internet access),so for the basics just go for the cheapest option or see if it is a better deal to get a package I use Talk talk,i pay on average about 拢27.00 for my phone calls line rental and the broadband is free.At first i had loads of problems with it.But my mate put me a new phone socket in and i got a new modem from Talk talk and now everything is fine.I will say though that the customer service was a bit bad,but they are supposed to be improving that now.If you have a Carphone warehouse near where you live i would go in there and order it instead of ringing them up.They seem to get stuff done quicker for you that way.I'm not that good at setting stuff up on a pc but i must say setting up my Talk talk broadband was very easy. You just follow the instructions on the cd that comes with your modem. http://www.talktalk.co.uk I also have a Packard bell pc If your mother is a light user, then I would suggest that Broadband is false economy. Broadband's main advantage, of course, is the speed and that you can use phone for talking at the same time as being online, but if you don't use internet for hours on end each day, why pay a subscription fee monthly when perhaps dial up will cost far less. I suggest she stays as dial up for the first quarter till she gets first phone bill. If the internet charge exceeds what the minimum broadband monthly rate would be, then fine, change to Broadband - and I can't fault BT - but if the charges for internet use are minimal, what's her priority, cost or speed etc. If you go for a cable broadband provider such as virgin they will send an engineer to install the service and it's pretty straight forward from there. If you want to look at the most appropriate packages for your mother's broadband use try this broadband calculator: http://www.broadband-expert.co.uk/broadb... which will recommend broadband packages based on your requirements. |
