What sorts of (useful) volunteer work can be done from home and/or during odd hours, & not on the phone?

I keep peculiar hours, and am looking at moving out of the city, so shouldn't commit to anything that requires me to show up frequently and on time.

I'm also not a fan of telephones. I do write reasonably well, though, but have little by way of resum茅 in that area, and it seems unlikely that a charity would want somebody new to them doing anything like answering e-mail inquiries or writing press releases.

What sort of things might I be able to do primarily at home -- or come in on a sporadic basis to do? Being able to go in late evenings would be a plus.

The work in question should be (a) useful, and (b) something that can be done in Ontario, Canada.

You could sew cloth diapers out of donated cotton t-shirts and donated old flannel sheets/pillowcases, then donate the diapers to a crisis pregnancy center or womans shelter.

i dint know to much about Canada, but blood donation is one of the greatest volunteer thing you can do. find out if there is a food bank there. if so they could use help all the time and you come and go as you please.

Hi there! You know this may sound like a fairly odd answer, and it may not apply at all in your situation but one thing that I used to love to do with my little kids is put small care packages together for the needy. We would make little sack lunches with pb&j sandwiches chips and a cookie with a little God Loves you message in it then get in the car and look for I will work for food guys or anybody that looks hungry. you can feed stray kitties, gain thier trust then take them to no kill shelters. Or heck just feeding them may be "entertaining angels unaware"! Or give the mail guy a cold Pepsi when he brings the mail or Leave a secret happy like a card or a book or some brownies on a lonely neighbor's door step, then, ring the door-bell and run (with kids that is, lest they think you a nut-job!) We all love suprises and we all need to know that we are loved and not alone in the world. I think the world needs a big shot of silliness! We all laugh in the same language! You could go to www.peta.org and join their activist network. You will then get email alerts on the cruelties faced by animals across the globe and make a difference for them by joining the numerous letter writing campaigns that help better their lives. I've been doing this for them for many years and among others, have stopped the capturing and killing of our wild American horses for food consumption that is mostly exported to Japan! PETA will also alert you on demonstrations they have against animal cruelty issues in your area that you may want to take part in, if you would have the time or energy for it, and without the pressure of doing so, if you are not comfortable in that type of situation. I've met many wonderful people in these programs, not to mention the rewarding feeling that comes with the effort. I am sure PETA will be happy to have you on their team!
