Here is an interesting site about cables: http://web.anixter.com/Anixter/anixter.n...

cables for the TV are called RF Cables.
Cables for the Telephone lines are called Twisted pair
Cables for the LAN called Ethernet cables or cat5 cables you can check this type of cables at www.best-tronics.com

for the television RF cable is used
For the telephones Twisted Pair cable is used
For the LAN cat5 cable is used
In the CAT5 Cable , there are three types
1.straight cable
2.cross-over cable
3.Roll over cable

Lan cable international standard order is
whiteoranage
orange
whitegreen
blue
whiteblue
green
whitebrown
brown

In the straight cable

Two end of the cable should be in the same order

In the cross over cable

One end should be in standard order
and other end should be changed like below
1-3
2-6

In the roll over cable

one end should be in the standard order
and other end should be entirely opposite of this standard order

That's the tricky thing about the cable industry: everything tends to have multiple names... The best way to look at the differences between cables is by looking at the connectors at either end, and the type of raw cable in between them.

The "cable used for television" needs connectors that will fit on a typical TV, and raw cable that will carry the TV video signal. In the back of your TV, there's probably a round, threaded connector with a hole in the middle. This is called a "Type F" connector. You'll see the same on your cable box or the wall plate where your cable TV comes in. To carry video signals, you'll need a 75 Ohm coaxial cable (also called an RF cable or coax cable). So, to make this connection, you need a "75 Ohm coax cable with F type connectors on either end".

Got it so far? Let's tackle telephone next. The telephone connector is that little square one with a tab on top. It usually has 4 or 6 pins in it. This kind of connector is called a (4X6) connector, or commercially it's usually called an RJ-11 after the wiring scheme that it is usually used on. The bulk cable is flat modular, sometimes called "silver satin". So for the phone you need a flat modular cable with RJ-11 connectors on either end.

Hopefully it's getting easier at this point. For LAN, the connectors look like RJ-11 but they are bigger and have 8 pins in them. Those are usually called RJ-45. The raw cable has to be special to handle the high speed Ethernet, usually it is Category 5, Category 5e, or Category 6 rated. So you need a Category 5 cable with RJ-45 connectors on either end.

You can apply the same way of looking at any cable: figure out the connectors, then figure out the bulk cable, and you're good! I've attached a link to the connector chart on my company's web site. That should help figuring out the connectors, at least.
