Algebra 1 Math Homework Help?

One telephone company charges $16.95 per month and $.05 per minute for local calls. Another company charges $22.95 per month and $.02 for local calls. For what number of minutes of local calls per month is the cost of the plans the same?

this is a comparison problem. to solve it we will need to find the point that they are equal to one another.
Lets assign the value of the "minutes of local of calls" made to 'x', here is our equation for the point when they are equal
1695 +5x = 2295+2x (we multiplied everything by 100 to get rid of the decimal places)
5x - 2x = 2295 - 1695
3x = 600
x = 600 梅 3 = 200
At 200 minutes local calls the two telephone companies work out to be even
BELOW 200 minutes per month the $16.95 company is cheaper
for any minutes ABOVE 200, the second company will work out to be cheaper.

Let x stands for the $ per minute for local calls.

16.95+0.5x= 22.95+ 0.2x

Combine the terms and u will have your answer.... Just follow the equation! Use the calculator if you have to.
