A question regarding prayer and God's will.?

Since every prayer must be God's will before it is answered, shouldn't we all just pray for God's will. Also, if God's will is going to happen anyway, why pray at all?

It's kinda like a woman, theres a woman I really really really like, as a friend. I like talking to her on the telephone. Now, I call her and leave a message, I even text her a message, sometimes I send an email. I'm quite aware that she is every 90 minutes aware that I want to talk to her because she listens to her voice mail or read the email or the text. I will talk to her if it is her will.

If I was to send her an email every 10 minutes asking to talk to her, shes going to call me and say dude you sent me 80 emails, whats your problem don't call me again. 25 missed calls, she'll change phone numbers.

Isn't the same with God. God knows what it wants for us. Shouldn't we just accept God's will and say heh man it was your will thanks for willing me?

You are confusing free will with God's will. Let me give you an example. Let's say that you are sitting on the top of the mountain, and you can see a railroad. At the two end of the railroad you can see two trains approaching each other. Now, you know that these two trains will collide after 20 minutes. Because you can see it. But just because you know what will happen after 20 minutes, won't make you responsible for that act.

Similarly God knows what each and every human being will do. He knows what you will do today, tomorrow and whole of your life. He has also given us free will, meaning He is not interfering in our lives and directing what we should do and what we shouldn't. We are free to decide our own actions, and that's why our actions are the one which will decide whether we go to Paradise or Hellfire.

P.S We should not forget that God can answer your prayers and wishes and solve your problems. And He can interfere in our lives if He wants, granting something or taking away something. But in general He won't.

It's okay. God has "prayer ID" and "prayer waiting".

Exactly!! I have often said the same thing. If everyhting that happens is god's will: plane crashes, murders, survivals of said plane crashes, etc... why bother praying? Are you trying to change god's plan? Do xians think they know better than god what should happen next in the tapestry of human history? They should just pray that they have the strenght to accept whatever happens. Which is even too much to ask for, but we have to give them something.

A lot of Christians DO pray for God's will and then leave it at that. They are the one's nice to be around.

when i pray i ask for the best and know that the best isnt always what we want
when i prayed for my dad when he was ill ... i prayed that God see fit to do what is best for dad
dad passed away two days later with a smile on his face and in such peace , without pain
i couldnt have asked for anything better for him because i understood it was his time to go

It sounds like it's not God's will for you to be with this girl. I would try another.

Try this - some clear night go outside, away from too much light, and lay back and look up at the stars. If you are lucky you might even be able to see the Milky Way. Imagine 100's of billions of galaxies each with 100's of billions of stars.

Then imagine the last time you were at a crowded shopping mall and you asked God for a parking spot "up front". Imagine the creator of the heavens taking time out to help you park your car.

Now - and this is the most important part - go look up the word HUBRIS.

Yeah...it seems kind of circular doesn't it? I've been chewing on this one a long time.... But one difference in your analogy of the woman you're trying to contact is that she may be tired, in a bad mood, or just not want to talk to you right now, but I think God really does want a relationship with you, and doesn't get tired of the asking. (he'd have turned the lights out on the planet a long time ago if he did, hehe)

But, perhaps we assume too much when we think that God always gets his will. By giving us a free will too, it seems that he is, at least in part, self-limiting for our benefit, so that we can have the experience of exercising our will too (rather than be mere sock puppets). Maybe getting prayers answered is a matter of learning to commune with him, and to see people the way he sees them, to share his vision of the world. He is capable of more love that I can even imagine...so if I can walk with him sharing even just a little bit of that, just think what the effect on the world will be.

You have a defeatist attitude--GOD WANTS ATTENTION! NOW! PRAY! or he will throw a fit and flood the world and kill us all again--is that what you want?
