Firearms and domestic violence call?

When a Police Officer answers a domestic violence call and is informed that there is loaded guns in the home, what would be the procedure?

As a Police Officer if you never asked to "see" where the guns were, would you allow one of the people involed in the dispute who also appeared "enraged" towards you to enter a closet to find a telephone book?

No, once in the home the suspects are always keep controled, if any start to leave or reach anywhere, they will be ordered to stop,

If they don't stop, such force as needed to make them stop will be used. Even if there was not a notice of guns in the home, the suspect would never get into a closet ever.

No, and I believe that police procedures tell them exactly how to handle this type of situation.

1. Proceed with extreme caution, which is generally the case in all situations.
2. In this situation, you would never let anyone out of your sight, or retrieve anything that wasn't visible.

In Ca, we seize firearms in all DV cases and I would never ask to 'see' where they are, I would ask where they are and seize them myself.

In Illinois, firearms are removed from the area when the call is for domestic violence. Officers have discretion regarding the removal, but the majority of time that is handled by the responding officers themselves (as a matter of officer safety).
