I need help on this 1 math question?

im stuck on these question please help me solve it if you can.
thank so much.

A telemarketer makes calls from her home. She earns $240 per month plus a commission of 5% on her sales. Her employer also reimburses her for long distance telephone charges for calls made for the company. Last month she received a check for $256.65, which included a reimbursement of $8.95. What was the total of her sales?

(i have to use the dollar sign $$ in the answer just to let you know)

256.65 - 8.95 = $247.70 on sales and salary. So commissions = $7.70. 7.7/.05 = 154. So sales = $154.

$134.00

.
Okay, here we go. Since we know that the telephone reimbursement was $8.95, we can subtract that from her check immediately, since we are only interested in sales.

256.65 - 8.95 = 247.70

We can also subtract out her $240.00 base monthly salary, because that is not sales.

247.70 - 240.00 = 7.70

The thing we DON'T know is her sales total, so call that X.

5% of her sales total is $7.70 so translate that into algebra:

.05 (X) = 7.70

Divide both sides by .05

X = 7.70/.05 => X = 154.00

So her total sales for the month was $154.00

Hope this helps.
.

$154

First step it to take away the reimbursement from her total paycheck. 256.65-8.95=247.70

Then you need to take away her standard earnings she gets each month regardless of how well she sells ($240) so 247.7-240=7.70

So the amount of commission she earned was $7.70

If that 7.70 is 5% of the actual sales she made then her total sales is going to be 7.7*20=154 (5%*20=100%)

So, the final answer is $154

$260.09

256.65-8.95=247.7

247.7x5%= 12.39

247.7+12.39= $260.09
