I hate math help plz?

the directions say describe some problems with each method of surveying then write one question that you would like to ask the people who gave the survey

and the question is... a marketing firm selects a sample for a survey on toohtpaste by calling numbers randomly chosen from a telephone book. People who do not want to participate are listed as "no opinion"

i dont even get how to do anything please explain how you got your answer please and thank you

the problem with this one is that people not wanting to participate are listed the same as the people who have no preferance on the toothpaste. the should be listed in a separate category, since the ones that dont answer still might have an opinion, this would throw off your statistics. bring this question up to the teach, its written like crap. hope that helps.

The problem incurred by the survey purveyors is the face that they went with "random sampling" by use of a telephone book, therefore limiting the available responses to a select region.

I would ask the people giving the survey why they would do a phone interview for a survey that is clearly based on a personal reaction to a problem, meaning that very few of the people they call can have an informed opinion depending on what toothpaste they use.

The company should instead be using product test rather than random questioning, so the people they ask can give a reasonable response.

I hope that helps.

First of all, by choosing the numbers randomly, you eliminate bias in the choice of a sample from alist of the population. But here are some cautions about sample surveys : To begin, you need an accurate and complete list of the population. Because such list is rarely available, most samples suffer from some degree of undercoverage (i.e. some groups in the population out of the process of choosing the sample). For example, you will miss not only homeless people but prison in mates and students in dormitories. You will also miss people without residential phones, which consist of about 6% of the American households.

A more serious source of bias is nonresponse, which occurs when a selected individual cannot be contacted or refuses to cooperate (which is, in your question the people listed as no opinion)

Also, if the people contacted differ from those who are rarely at home or who refuse to answer questions (no opinion), some bias remain.
