Why do phone companies offer different rates for the same plans? |
I just spent two hours on the telephone with Verizon and AT&T. When you call, you get a recorded message that says better rates may be available on the internet. I checked the internet and found rates that were better than they were offering. I spoke to several representatives in different departments who all said those rates were not available to me. I was wondering if anyone who is in marketing or sales can provide me with a realistic answer as to why a company would want to frustrate its customers in such a way. Is this a game to entice people yet charge them more? P.S. This was for local phone service, long distance and DSL. I consider myself an educated person but I really had to spend several hours to understand the billing, the available options and the packages. Free markets? |
