New UK Postage Charges. Did you know of this "hidden charge?"?

U.K. Sat 26th August 2006 I just went to the postage to check an envelope with CD + case inside. It will be classed as a Package. Asking what will happen if there was insufficient postage? Answer from Coventry City Post Ofice. The recipient will be charged FOUR TIMES THE SURPLUS. Checking their paper size guide, it does not mention this point. Not noticed it on their website either. Reverse of leaflet states "template is for guidelines only and not intended to represent absolute dimensions". I think the Post Office are going to build up a backlog of "undeliverable mail" This surplus charge is with IMMEDIATE EFFECT. Would you collect a birthday card, or something similar, with 4 times surplus to pay? Plus maybe a journey to the Sorting Office to collect, or telephone call arrangng time for re-delivery? When the package is delivered and surplus is payable. What would you do? I think there are going to be problems.

That's terrible! What do the Post Office think its doing???? They should be encouraging us to send Mail, not penalizing us! The way things are going, people will only send emails and ecards. Parcels will be transferred to other companies like FedEx. Catalogue companies no longer use the Post Office to deliver goods to customers as it is. Ridiculous!

Yep......I received a leaflet through the door several weeks ago explaining the new set-up.

However, it shouild be noted that neither the Royal Mail or indeed the Brit Gov are responsible for this. According to everything that I have heard and read the bampots in Brussles are responsible.

Another typical mind numbing exercise to confuse and bewilder the populace.

that's terrible. i think you're right tho, people will refuse to pay and they'll realise a few months down the line they'll have to change their system. lets hope it doesnt cost us in the long run. dear god, how much would that be for vinyl??

Thats a standard commercial trick these days, and its a shame. The Post Office was the last thing we paid for, built and owned after the water, electricity, gas, oil, council houses and coal mines were sold off.

This is just another ridiculous directive from the brainless in Brussels .

I bet there many E.U Countries that will totally ignore this one as they do most other ridiculous directives .

Tell them to shove it. When they get a mountain of stuff they don't know what to do with, they'll have a rethink.
