she has e-mailed me many times-sent me pictures-says there are no telephones around even in the internet cafe- poverty in russia??some answers please-am i wasting my time??

Yes, she can have a .ca email address. I have .ru and .uk addresses (and despite what one poster said, there are no yahoo.ru addresses).

Phones are not "all over" as most of the above people assume. Phones are rare, and expensive for Russians to use. They do not get "free local" calls, like Americans.

Most internet is cable. Even the internet cafe's that are on dial-up certainly are not going to let someone use their phone as they pay for every minute for phone calls (incoming/outgoing/local/long distance).

People who assume that Russia is like America are simply ignorant of the facts of life in Russia.

But... if she asks for money, do not send any for any reason. I would assume it is a scam - tell her you are coming there, and see how quickly she says "no, i come to you!"

Tell her to skype you, if she has a computer that should not be a problem. By the way, I believe .ca is Canada

yes very soon she will email you saying she has travelled to your country and is stuck in the airport due to lack of funds for some imaginary reason and will ask you to send her the money so she can enter the country-you should make your excuses and leave

yahoo.ca is Yahoo Canada. Yahoo Russia is yahoo.ru.

If shes on the internet i don't see how shes manged not to get to a phone doesn't the internet require a phone line? So this is most likely a scam there are many like that they tend to meet up with you then hold you for ransom.

Sounds like a scam to me, probably a con to get your bank details or something.
