Very boring question. Anyone know the answer?

At my University halls I have a telephone in my room. To call someone you must press 9 and then you will be prompted to enter the telephone number.If you want to add credit you must press 1 and you will be asked for your credit card details. The telephone provided is SO ugly and cheap that it is hard to hear other people when you are on the phone.Being a teenage girl I am only my phone all the time so was wandering.Would I be able to buy my own telephone and simply unplug the original telephone and plug in my new telephone? Would I still be able to make and recieve calls? I've seen this gorgeous pink phone from a local store but it is quite expensive and don't want to buy it only to not be able to use it. Thanks

Yes of course you can use a different phone. Just be sure to save the old phone in a cabinet or whatever, so you can hook it back up when it's time for you to go. You don't have to buy an expensive phone to use, either, you can buy a very good quality phone for not very much money. I'd be a bit concerned about someone stealing an expensive phone, so you might want to keep that in mind.
