Why are Numbers in the Calculators and cell phones reversed, Why there is a dot in number 5, youcan't answer.

You would have seen many Telephones, cell phones, digital phones, Calculators and computers . Have you noticed that the numbers are in reverse order and why. You would have seen number 5 will have a dot in the centre in cell phones and tele phones and even in Computers, WHY

For telephones, the arrangement of the digits was chosen because it most closely follows the arrangement of the digits on a rotary dial, where 1,2,3 are at the top of the crescent, 4,5,6 are down the side and 9,8,7 are on the bottom.

For 'normal' keypads, research was done initially to determine what people were most comfortable with, and this was it.

The dot is a line-up guide for your fingers, exactly like the bumps on the F & J keys on the alphabetic portion of a qwerty keyboard (other keyboard layouts have the dimples in the same places too). These bumps are very useful for touch-typing. They have nothing to do with visual impairment, although this is a useful side-effect.

i believe the dot on the number five is there to aid the blind or poor sighted as for the first part of your Q i have no idea

I recently heard that this was originally done to keep accountants from accidentally dialing wrong phone numbers. So, calculators that they could be tapping away on all day long are backward from phones.

The dot on the five is for people who can't see or can't see well, they can feel the dot and know by feel where the other keys are.

I can't answer why number pads are reversed between keyboards and telephones. However, the reason that the number 5 has a raised dot(s) on it is so that someone who is visually impaired, or simply not looking at the pad while dialing, can use the dots to locate a known key and use the keypad without looking. It's the same reason that (in the USA) the F and J keys on keyboards almost always have raised dots.

Well I do not know how to explain but what they have made is quite correct. When you use calculator it is similar to Key Board's Number pad. The dot on number five is for blinds navigate other numbers easily. Even we can type fast if I take the help of that dot.

Why the numbers are reversed I do not know, except that they play mind games with people who 10 key by touch.

That is the reason for the dots on the 5. It is the same as the dots on the f and j keys on a keyboard...so that if you are typing something in by touch, you have a frame of reference to at least where the 5 key is. And if you ever watch a busy secretary, they will sometimes dial by touch.

That's a good question. My guess would be that the dot is there so the person can feel where they are when using the buttons without looking down at the key pad. Similiar to there being a dot on the "F" and "J" on your keyboard, which are the home keys in typing. As to why the numbers are reversed, I have no clue. But I really wish they would fix it because I keep getting screwed up.
