A form from the IRS asking to update my record? |
I read some other answer on here saying it is a scam, but the phone number is really to the IRS! Your best bet is to actually call the IRS and verify that they sent the letter. Does this form letter have a number on it? Does it have your social security number on it? Have you failed to file a return and IRS is trying to get it from you? If it is a real IRS number, call and ask what they really want and take care of the problem. If you call, the person who answers will give you their name and an employee number from which he or she could be tracked if neccessary. Just because someone answered the phone with a correct sounding greeting - doesn't mean it's the IRS. "Updating records" requests scream scam. |
