I = I0 * I0^(Db/10) gives the intensity, I, of a sound, where I0 is the intensity of the threshold of sound, or sound that can be barely perceived. Using the sound of a cordless telephone 20 db and the given formula, find out how many times louder than threshold of sound the telephone sound is. Include the sound, its measure, and the calculations necessary to find the result in your answer.

Part 2:
Is log(ab) = log(a) * log(b) a true statement? Choose any positive values for a and b and then compute both sides of the equation. Does it appear that this is a true statement? Why? Show all calculations.

Part 2


log(ab)=log(a)*log(b) is NOT a true statement

a=5
b=10
log (5x10) = log (50) = 1.69897

log (5) = 0.69897
log(10) = 1

log a + log b = log (ab)

Both answers are correct.

log(ab) is log(a)+log(b), not log(a)*log(b)
