Telephone problems?

I have an old rotay phone and I can call people on it. When the other phones ring, I can answer it and hear the people clearly. The problem I have is my rotary phone doesn't ring. Why isn't it ringing. I think it's connected correctly because I can make calls and answer the phone when the other phones in the house rings. Is there a volume adjustment on the phone for how loud it rings? Please help.

can you tell us what type of telephone you have. model and year of the phone. and don't let any one tell you that don't use the old phone. it is good to show people the old phones. and how they work.

Remove the cover on the phone and locate the red and black leads from the ringer. Now locate the leads from the mounting cord. The red ringer lead needs to be attached to the red mounting cord lead. The black ringer lead needs to be attached to the green mounting cord lead. If doesn't work, attach a picture of the insides of the phone and that would help to figure it out. Good luck.

Old rotary phones usually have a small mechanical lever on the bottom underside that "dampens" the bell. It could be in the off position.
