Stanford Students Reaching out- Tell us why you want to go to college?

I am a current Stanford student and a member of a student group that promotes social enterprise. We are participating in the Innovation Tournament at Stanford (http://eweek.stanford.edu). Our tournament project is to create "value" through giving honest college advice to high school students. For more info, please visit our site at cardinalstretch.blogspot.com.

Basically, we want to know:
1) Why do you want to go to College?
2) Tell us something interesting about yourself or what your dreams are, and how college can help you achieve them.

We will select several quality responses, and either through a telephone or video conference, answer any question you may have to the best of our abilities. This is NOT a joke; we got into the college our dreams, and want to help deserving students do the same.

There are many reasons why I want to go to college. Neither my mother nor father have graduated from college. I think the rest of my family would be proud to have a graduate in the family. I've been dreaming of becoming a physician. My grandmother and uncle both died of cancer. There are times I wonder if I could do something great. Something that would make them proud of me, whether it could have helped them or not. I want to help people. I want to save people's lives. Most importantly, I want to make a difference. Going to college can help me achieve this. There is no way, really, to become a physician without going to college or medical school. Whether I end up inventing the cure to cancer or not, I am going to make a difference in this world one way or another.

I want to go to college to further my education, and ultimately contribute to society in any way I can. My dream is that eventually everyone will have not only the ability, but the want to go to college. By going to college, I will be able to help inspire students with my success story, and I will be able to reach more people and have a more widespread success.

1.)i want to go to college so that i will grow more as a person and learn life within the university.

2.)i really love handling chemicals and now im in college taking up chemical engineering. it really helped me a lot because i learned evrything about the chemicals that are dangerous and what they are made of.

Why do I want to go to college?
College is my number one goal right now. I'm currently a sophomore in high school, but I know it's never to early to start applying yourself. The main reason I want to go to college is to get a good education. A good education will eventually lead to a rewarding career and the stability to jump-start your adult life. My mother was the first in her family to go to college, and I admire her so much. She raised my younger sister and I on her own. My grandparents had 5 children and they weren't well-off financially, and she applied herself and received a full scholarship to an out-of-state college . My mom has shown me what a good education can amount to, and she works an tries her hardest. I want to give my future family the stability and comfort of knowing I have an educational backing and I can have a career that I enjoy. The reason I want to go to college to to show my mom how much I appreciate her.

College can help me can help me become an optometrist. I am extremely fascinated by the human eye. It's amazingly complex and there's no other organ like it. Sight is just amazing, period. Try not opening your eyes for one entire day; we take our sight for granted. I also want to help people with their eyesight problems. I had vision problems in elementary school and my teachers and parent's thought I was stupid, behind in my learning, and that I should be put in a special learnings program. During recess, I put on a pair of my friends glasses and it was like I changed from color-blind to rainbow vision. It was an entirely different world!! I remember blurry objects came together and things became sharper. It was crazy, I took them home with me and begged my mom to get me glasses. It was the awesomest thing ever. College can help me become an optometrist by giving me experience in this field. I'm working extremely hard in school right now (4.0) cause I know my hard work will pay off in the future.

Thanks for taking the time to read this!
