Broadband with no landline question, UK. only please?

Hi, I have recently had my landline telephone cut off as my ex lodger ran up a huge bill which did not get paid. I therefore have no internet services at present. I have finally got him to start paying the bill off but obviously and understandibly BT do not want to reinstate my internet until they have their money. As he is now paying it off is there any other way I can get broadband from another supplier or am I locked to BT until he has finished paying them (which could be some time!). I am not fussed about not having a landline as I never used it anyway but really could do with being back online.
Any advice would be great, and yes the lodger has gone now so no more surprises!!

You can get Broadband without a landline. The easiest way is to get a wireless 'dongle'. This is simply a little piece of kit that plugs into any USB port on your computer. They are very simple to set up and use. You will be online within a few minutes of plugging it in. They run off the mobile phone network, so are not dependent on landlines at all. Several of the mobile operators now offer these dongles including 3, Vodaphone and O2. You can get them in any mobile high street shop. They come with and without contracts - though the ones without contracts cost more. I can't recommend any particular one - though a friend has the one from 3 and says it is excellent.

get a wifi connection from t mobile
its cheap
no wires
no phoneline / landline needed
its also completely unlimited

just cut off your landline with bt
pay whatever you have to pay
and use the wifi connection from then on
you can still have this new connection regardless of your standing with another company

try virgin media i had them before i had free sky, with virgin it was 拢9.99 a month for the broadband and 拢9.99 a month for the landline phone but got free local calls and free weekend calls.

but you dont need the phone as the broadband runs off cable which they install for free.

i think you have to stay with bt until he has paid the bill,but try talktalk they might switch you over to them,because the broadband is free,mostly everywhere in the uk
