How would you explain this to a 6-year-old?

I have to make a speech for English. It has to be anywhere between 1-5 minutes.
In my speech I have to explain what a telephone answering machine is in a way a 6-year-old could understand it, and in a way that will take enough time. Anything you can think of that will take up space or time??? Thanks!

I would say, "A telephone answering machine is a machine that will answer your telephone if nobody is there to answer it. When the phone rings and there is no answer, the machine plays a message that you have recorded which tells the caller that you are not there, and please leave a message. When they hear the "beep" sound, the caller leaves a message telling who they are and how to call them back. When you get home, you push a button on the answering machine and it will play your messages that callers left for you. Then you can call back the people that missed you when you were out."
I think the key is to make it so that a 6 year old can understand it, but not to talk down to your audience like they are six years old.

"When Mommy and Daddy aren't here to answer the phone, the people can leave a message.
This is an answering machine. It holds all the messages people say. Before you leave, you can record your voice by pushing this button. Then you can say something like 'I'm sorry. We're not here right now. Please leave a message!' and when people call they will here it!
After they here what you said, the answering machine beeps. Like this "beep!". and then the person calling can say what they want to. They may say who they are, and why they were calling, so that when you come home, you can call the person back."

a telephone answering machine is like a little robot that answers your phone for you.

he gives people a message you have left, and takes messages for you, which he plays back to you as many times as you want to hear it. You tell the little robot whether to save each message or to erase it.

A telephone answering machine is used when you are unable to answer the phone. This way people can leave their name, phone number, and sometimes a message so you can call them back when you get the chance!

Some machines let you check your messages when you are not at home while others have a blinking light that tells you when there are any new messages for you to hear.
