How unsettling is it when you are trying to get ready to leave the house and....?

....either the doorbell or the telephone rings? Both happened to me yesterday....and I do find it quite unsettling. I have to admit, I did let the answering machine answer the phone on this occasion.

Yes (((Hello World))) l know the feeling well, but l just Ignored the telephone, then answered your Question, lol.Tee Hee. Got my Priorities Right Hey?. Tee Hee Hee.Love Ya,.Jo,xx

Yeah, I find it very creepy, like at that very moment were you touch the doorknob to get out... and it rings and you just stop and stare, contemplating whether or not to answer or let it keep ringing, and as for the door, I crouch down, and try to look out a nearby window, to see if I know this person... It seems very planned....

P.S I'm very paranoid that my life is a TV show after seeing The Truman Show....(good movie but did not improve my paranoia) and since that seems so planned.... it could be from a script but I'll never know, until I escape that is....

I wouldn't say it's "unsettling" but it is inconvenient. I just let the machine get it.

It annoys me when you get delayed like that.

dno

Yes! I was running late one day and I just got out of the shower still had a towel on, and the door bell ring, i answered the door, and the guy was like I'm so sorry your busy and left, I still don't know who he was or why he was here, my fiance thinks he was just a peeping tom... scary!

it's not unsettling at all

Can you recall anything else that happened at all yesterday or was that the highlight?

My tactic is never, ever answer the phone and as for the door - I always look outside from the upstairs before I actually venture near the door.

It does not seem to bother me....
I have no problem saying....
"Catch you later gotta go...."
Peace.

Hey, Life happens and it usually happens when you are trying to go or do something.

life's a ***** in-it

unsettling is finding out your friend is a crack addict.

ummm the phone ringing just before you leave the house is just bad timing.

Very frustrating, I think you did the right thing letting the answer machine take the call but then again what if that call was important? would you forgive yourself? There's nothing you can do about someone at the door, except pretend you're not home and wait for the person to leave, but what if it's the UPS guy delivering an important package or your mother? Would you forgive yourself?

Yes, that can knock me off my square, I've been known not to answer the phone or the door

It's Annoying When I Have To Take Off My Shoes and Walk To The Kitchen Or Study To Pick Up The Phone

For every delay there
is a hidden reason or
purpose !! Fate is
funny that way !!

Annoying but not unsettling....unsettling is when you are ready to leave with the family in tow and discover only half of them bothered to get dressed.

If the phone rings, I answer it, even if i have already locked the front door, I will have to unlock the door and dash to the telephone. The news could be important.

Used to drive me bonkers until I read something in Dear Abby over a score of years ago which was that the phone and the doorbell are there for MY convenience and I am not enslaved by them. Put myself in motion and check myself at all times.

That response of Dear Abby's gave me alot of relief. Now, I don't get unsettled at all.

I still have to explain this to new friends every now and then, who expect me to be there every time they pick up the phone or decide to drop over. "But I know you were home, your car's there." Was a phone message I got the other day. Well, I wasn't home. The car was. I was with someone else in their car and I was out. Ha ha jumping to conclusions always provides crash landings........

Nice to know how popular you are, eh???

Thanks for the Q :)

It can be unsettling especially if you let the answering machine get it and you leave and the phone call was that what you were going to do was cancelled. With the doorbell, it would be especially if it is a person who dont want to see and you know you have to get out of there( Door to door salesmen for example)

Yeah, I usually ignore the phone!

I would have let the answering machine pick it up and nipped out the back door! ;-)

i hate that when that happens!and worse is after i have gone out of the house, then the phone rings,i usually just ignore it and like you,let the answering machine get it!

Yeah, this happens to me quite often. I just open the door with my handbag over my shoulder and my car keys in my hand. And if they don't seem to realize that I am on my way, then I just tell them. But only if it is an appointment. And only in a nice way.

well i just answer the phone when i want ot ,i dont let it control me ,weekends i usually let it ring into the machine and listen to them when it suits me as for when it all happens at once it happens to me as im getting in the shower every time it shits me ,dosnt matter what time aof day or night ,.so i get out answer the door if i know them they get in if i dont a say by busy at the moment and close the door and go back to the shower ,.while thee is water all the way through my house .

That's when I growl and say, "I am not HERE!" and let it go to voice mail or let the person at the door know I am outta here!

Its a nuisance, but since I have three kids-- I am used to stuff like that happening too.

I do find this unsettling. You know what would be *really* helpful? An answering machine for our doors. It would be really useful for instances like what you experienced, as well as obnoxious sales people.

if only I were that popular!

That always happens to me Right wen im on time for school the phone rings & i got to write down some info for that person wasting 3 mins.
