Is is possible to die from internal organ failure from a car accident?

Okay, this is not just another random question that I am posting so I need an honest to God true answer, so yeah. This is a really important subject to me, only because I need to get my facts straight.
For example: say a eighteen year old guy crashes his car into a telephone post and the phone post falls onto his car and narrowly misses his upper body but crushes his legs and break both of them. The result is two broken legs and a lot of bruises and scratches all over his body. Now say he makes it safely to a hospital and is put in urgent care and he seems to be getting better on the outside, but is it possible to have his major organ systems failing him on the inside? Please help me! Thanks!

This is not a true situation but a situation of a figment of my imagination. It is fictional, and I needed to know if this is a realistic situation.

It is very much possible that the steering wheel could of cause damage to his major organs. When he impacted the telephone pole the g force could of cause him to hit the steering wheel or the seat belt could of did some damage when it restrain him.

if its your heart or brain yes its possible but the hospital should be able to tell if he has internal problems
