Jenny's model train is set up on a circular track .?

there are six telephone poles evenly spaced around the track .it takes the engine of her train 10 seconds to go from the first pole to the third pole .how long would it take for the engine to go the entire distance ?
the answer is not 20 second !
draw a diagram to help you determine the correct answer .

Two shakes of a lamb's tail because Jenny likes the pretty little bow in its ears.

:)

Did you draw the diagram? I'm not going to tell you the answer, but I will tell you that it takes 5 seconds to travel from pole to pole.
You should be able to figure the rest out if you make a diagram.

30 seconds...

From the 1st pole to the 3rd is 1/3 the total distance given that there are 6 poles around the track. (giving a hexagonal shape if a line is drawn from pole to pole. If it takes 10 seconds to travel 1/3 the way around, it will take 30 seconds to go 3/3 the way around (the whole way).

It would have to travel around to the 4th pole in 10 seconds to make it the whole way around in 20 seconds.

j

30 seconds as 1st to 3rd is two sixths of the circle or one third

It takes 5 seconds per pole so from pole one all the way around to pole one again is 30 seconds. No diagram needed, only common sense and visualization.

25 secs

Your question is simply another math question just like all your other questions. It really has nothing to do with railroads, or trains. By the way, the answer is 30 seconds.

I'm glad she's into model railroading. Figuring out layouts and spacing for telephone poles is good math exercise. Since I no longer have to worry about speed and distance ratios, I go as fast as I want on my layout. If the train falls off the track, then I have an opportunity to weather it!

Model railroading lasts a lifetime.

Next time do your own homework!

DUH !!

It depends on if the train is running clockwise or counter-clockwise. Of course, by extension, it would then matter whether the track is laid in the northern or southern hemisphere.

More details, please...

From the first pole to the third is 2 poles. That is, one third of a lap around.

I think the answer is 30 seconds.

1st to 3rd pole = 10 seconds

3rd to 5th pole = 10 seconds

5th pole to 6th and back to1st = 10 seconds

Therefore, total = 30 seconds.

I can't guarantee the accuracy of my answer - it's a long time since I went to school and maths was never my strong point.
