Cat 5 cabling connections ?

Hi

i am going to run some new cables through house and am thinkin of putting in this cat 5 cable as i have a box of it

i see the cores are all colour coded to match the sockets
but what is each pair of the 4 pairs for ??

can any thing else be used on this cable ie phone or do u run separate phone lines as well

basic questions really but who will know the answers ??

also can i run 2 bt home hubs on the same telephone line as our house is so big and built of stone the 1 hub doesnt orrk (wireless) down th far end .

The 4 pairs are to connect to the 8 pins of an RJ45 plug or socket. You can use CAT5 for phones. With most hubs you can use two on the same line.

cores 1 and 2 are used to transmit and cores 3 and 6 are used to receive.

cat 5E is far, far superior to standard telephone cable. you can use it for VOIP (Voice over IP) or, with the proper adaptor, it is possible to use for standard telephone connections.

you can use cat 5E to wire standard telephone sockets

I dont know about the home hubs
