You chose my punishment but my brother gets to choose his, unfair!?

If you see my other question it says that you had to choose my punishment because Yahoo!Answers was my crime. I was grounded for three weeks with no friggin computer!

I've learned, I rarely go on here now. I'm more alert about my sister's needs.

Now, my little brother is 7 and his best friend TJ was over our house today after school. TJ comes almost everyday so we consider him part of the family. Today, my brother and TJ were fighting over the remote after doing their homework and accidentally broke it in half. Suprising I know.

My mom flipped and sent TJ home. She told this to my brother, "You either get a spanking or no TV or telephone for two weeks. You pick." I stood there with my mouth open.

I would rather have been spanked than grounded! Well that might've been a little weird since I'm 16. But the point is that it's unfair that my little brother got to choose his punishment, but you guys got to choose mine.

What are your views on this?

Being spanked at 16 sounds better then being grounded because you've grown out of spankings. Grounding means more to you now. You can't compare yourself to a 7 year old, he's more then half your age. Oh ya, and trust me, if you were in our family, you'd never be asking to be spanked.

Your mom KNEW you would rather have the spanking.Thats why she didn't give you the choice. The younger you are the weaker you are and the more the spankings hurt.
Think about it.

I agree being grounded sucks and yelling I think hurts a child more then hitting. The pain of a slap goes away. I used to beg to be hit because I hated feeling like my parents wer disapointed in me. Now that I have kids I dont want to do any disiplining ... I just say "wait till your father gets home" and they take off!!!

At least your parents care enough to punish their kids when they have done something bad. You'll be thanking them later. I would have made some stupid decisions if it wasn't for my parents raising me right.

It may not be fair, but sometimes parents have reasons for things. Maybe you can sit down with your mom and ask her about it openly? Just don't confront her with it like you're pissed or anything. I used to think my parents did really unfair crap until I was a mother at 17. Now as a mother I understand why my parents sometimes did things the way they did. There are still things I will never understand though. Maybe it's just a different technique she uses with your brother verses yourself because of your different personalities. Anyways, good luck and hopefully you'll be able to see one day why your mom did what she did. I do see how you are saying it is unfair though. I always thought that my older brother still got treated with much more slack than myself. He is 24 and I still think he's got it more easy!

One of my friend's always got to choose her punishment. Grounding or spanking. She always chose spanking because it was over with faster.

It's just up to the parents. Get over it and stay out of trouble. You won't be put in the position either way then.
