one more equation i need help on:

A telephone companies charge is $5.24 for the first 3 mins and 1.31 for every minute after that. What is the equation?

1.31x + 5.24= Total price including first 3 minutes

5.24 + 1.31x = y

x = minutes
y = total amount of money

5.24 + 1.31(m) = c (charge)

or

(1.31)m + 5.24 = c (charge)

Lets call the Total cost C, and the number of minutes M.

C = 5.24 + 1.31*(M-3)

5.24 is fixed, no matter how many minutes you use, so it doesnt need to be multiplied by M. 1.31 is how much you are charged for each minute, after the first 3. So you figure out how many minutes past the first 3 (M-3) and multiply that by the cost per minute of 1.31.

5.24 + (x-3)*1.31= y ; x= total no of minutes the phone was used and y = total amount charged
