Math Problem-Explain it in details, i cant get to the right answer....?

Brenda and Nick sell memberships in a automobile club over the telephone. Brenda sells one membership every 0.125 hour, and Nick every 0.1 hour. At what rate are the membership being sold when both are working?

All u need to do is this: calculate 0.125 of an hour and 0.1 of an hour first.
Now, 0.125 of an hour wud be 0.125 * 60 = 7.5 minutes
while 0.1 of an hour wud be 0.1 * 60 = 6 minutes

So, this means that Brenda sells a membership card every 7.5 minutes. That means she sells 8 cards per hour. (We got 8 by calculating 60 / 7.5)

On the other hand, Nick sells a membership card every 6 minutes. That means he sells 10 cards per hour. (We got 10 by calculating 60 / 6)

So, together the duo sell 10+8 = 18 membership cards in an hour's time.

The answer lies in breaking an hour down to 60 minutes.

B = 0.125*60 = 7.5
N = 0.1*60 = 6

Brenda sells a membership every 7.5 minutes, or 8 per hour.
Nick sells a membership every 6 minutes, or 10 per hour.
Together, they sell 18 memberships per hour.

rate for the sum is the sum of the rates.
Brenda sells 1membership/.125 hours
Nick sells 1 membership/.1 hours

together they sell 1/.125 + 1/.1 =8+10=
18 memberships/hour
