Internet connection help please. 10 points for the most helpful answer.?

I rent a room in a house that has sky internet with wireless router. Because there are so many walls between my room and the room with the router, I can't pick up a signal so wireless connection is out. I have a telephone socket in my room that is part of the house telephone network. Is there any way that I can somehow connect to the internet through the telephone socket.
Forgive me if I sound really thick, but this subject is not my forte.

You can buy "high gain" wireless adapters for such situations. You can get a USB one that looks a bit like a mini satellite dish to enhance the signal.

Good luck.

yea dial up but it is slow

Yes, with a BT Hub and Microfilters. The microfilters plug directly into the telephone socket and have two outlets, one for the phone and one for your Hub.
But you will have to sign up to BT Broadband.

Not really - but you could go for LAN over the power sockets.

Check out Devolo - they make the best gear for this, although there are cheaper brands.

If you want to search around, look for 'homeplug'

Do you have cable in your room? If so, cable modem is the way to go. Contact your cable company and they should be able to hook ya up, including putting any lines in if you don't have cable!

We were having similar problems with our BT wireless modem , so we use the ethernet connection instead (cat 5 cable). I dont know if your modem/router allows ethernet connection though as I'm not familiar with it.Trouble is it means long cables visible.

Run an ethernet cable from the router to your room, just poke a hole through, and run cable outside. You cannot use the phone lines that is on the telephone network system, it has different signal. The hole is easy to patch anyway just ask the owner politely.

to answer your question, no. Put you can by using the power lines.

one would go in your room, the other plugged in by the router.

if you use a dial up connection through the phone line it'll take up the phone sp noone can use it. If you get a broadband modem and an adapter then i think you can connect to the internet (at a faster speed than dial up and it shouldn't take up the phone line)

you will not be able to have an alternative broadband account if the main line is being used for sky.you should be able to get a router for the telephone socket in your room.i think that is the idea of wireless.
