Can a person make a direct call to a judge's office about a case?

My husband was arrested on an out of county warrant. A corrections officer told him to have me to place a call directly to the judge's office and see if any arrangements could be made. Basically he's been arrested and there is a purge amount of $2000 that is to be paid but we don't have it. This is not a bond amount so we can't do a 10% thing. I am trying to avoid having him sent out of the county for a hearing.

You cannot talk to the judge about the case. It is against judicial ethics to do so. The judge must be unbiased at all cost- and must avoid the appearance of any inpropriety. It can get you in trouble for trying to bias an officer of the court. Go through proper channels- an attorney or the DA.

Doesn't he have the right to an attorney and if he can't afford one, one will be provided? Call the legal aid society and maybe they can help you.

I think you can call the courthouse and get through to the judges office, but you will not directly talk to the judge. It will probably be an answering machine and an office helper may call you back. It may help if you went there in person instead of phone call and brought all the paperwork, but it seems that your husband would be entitled to a lawyer.

Call the district attorney, not the judge.
My son's ex wife messed up on a bill, which turned into a court charge (without him knowing). He didn't find out until he was arrested, on a warrant that he was unaware of, or the reason for it. I am not sure if it is possible to discuss with the judge in an outside of court setting. The usual reason for an arrest is that there might have been a court hearing that he was not aware of, thus failed to appear, and the warrant was issued.
The DA or someone in his office can explain what the whole story is, and has authority to resolve it, if they believe there is a valid reason.

Doubtful The Judge will not get involved with a case without the defense attorney and prosecutor present.

Thats why they have a court room, so that all sides can raise their issues and the judge can rule. He is not going to accept a personal call from some prisoners wife. It would be highly unusual if he did and probably improper.

Call the judges office, you may or may not talk to the judge. He has a secretary to handle this type of call. The judge or sectretary is not allowed to discuss your case, but they are very helpful people, the will instruct you on what proceedures you must take. Its part of their job.

Call your judges courthouse office WITH the case number and the court date to help the secretary pull up his case. Be prepared with paper and pencil and have your questions ready.

People do this quite a bit. The key is for you to have every question you need answers to already written out . Make sure you leave plenty of space between the questions so you have enough room to write the answers. Be calm.

One of my neighbors is a secretary in a judges chambers here and they take calls all day long about just this sort of thing. You won't speak to the judge but you will be speaking to the secretary. Once you have the info you need, you will be better able to make decisions. After that, I suggest you make an appointment with an attorney.

I remind you, many counties have a question and answer place on the county website which can answer many questions you may have about procedure.
