Suggestions about wall shelves and cabinets in apartments please.? |
I'm moving into my first apartment, and according to my lease agreement, I can't paint or put holes/nails in the walls of my apartment. I didn't think this was common because all my friend's apartments have hanging pictures and whatnot, but I guess it makes sense not to damage the walls. Despite the lease agreement, I still would like to hang a wall cabinet in my bathroom (it's part of a set which includes a floor cabinet and one that goes over the toilet) and some cork boards in my home office. Do you suggest I go through with it and fix it when I move out? Patching up tiny nail holes are a piece of cake, but someone pointed out if the landlord shows up one day and notices stuff hanging on the walls, even if I fix it, they'll still be mad about me doing it. These walls are dividers within my own apartment, and not shared with other units. I'm scared to touch those walls as it might increase possible noise distribution or worse... damage the other unit. What do you think I should do? The furniture isn't all that fancy or expensive, but I don't really want to leave a perfectly good wall cabinet when I leave =p.... it's like $150 (and may I remind you... part of a set). I would look into the Command Hooks by 3m. They stick onto the wall but you can easily remove them when you want, supposedly they don't leave residue or anything. most landlords (lease holders) will allow you to make an improvement to their property as long as it's done tastefully and you leave the improvement there when you leave. Why not just ask the landlord if you can do these things? Promise him you will repair the holes and repaint before you leave. Get this in writing if he approves. |
