Why do people assume that because your trying to get medicaid for your child you are trying to ride the system

I am very very frustrated at the people who abuse these systems and make the ones who need it as a crutch or stepping stool look like free loaders. ugghhh.
I work 2 part time jobs which together give me about 40 hours a week. Because of this I can't get benefits, like insurance, so I'm on my parents for now. I'm 30 weeks pregnant and when she is born she will have to be on medicaid. Not my first choice but whats a girl to do? My boyfriend and I rent a 1 bedroom apartment and share a car, mine kinda crapped out on me. We live off of 1 dollar pizza's and cans of ravioli, and yes I do feel guilty about my poor diet. My boyfriend works a full time job at a doctors office which does offer insurance but to add someone it would be about 400 dollars a month, thats just not going to work for us. He also works a part time job at night doing dictation for his office, which goes towards paying off his bills. So the other day I asked a question concerning Medicaid

and people kept jumping on my back saying that I was pretty much trying to jump on the band wagon, or ride the system. Lets get one thing straight, if I could avoid it I would but with rent, grocery bills, GAS, soon to be child care bills, and utilities, I really can not afford big insurance premiums. Let face it, I鈥檓 a member of the working poor and it sucks. Anyways it really just made me upset, here I am trying to be a responsible adult and I鈥檝e got people yelling at me because I genuinely need help. It鈥檚 not like I want her to be on Medicaid forever and I鈥檓 not popping out kid after kid, I鈥檓 not asking for WIC and I鈥檓 not asking for free housing.
Has anybody else been here before?

Peope tend to forget that everyone is not as fortunate as they are. You can't let it get you down. You're being a good mom by doing what you have to do to take care of your baby. It would be another story if you just let her go w/o any insurance. Ignore the ignorance and continue to allow God to be your guide. Those programs are put in place for people such as yourself, so take advantage of what YOUR tax dollars have to offer. As far as the food, you may want to look into WIC because they will provide healthy food for you to eat while you're pregnant and also while you're breastfeeding. If you feed formula, they will also assist with getting you some.

I completely understand how you feel about insurance. I got an individual United Healthcare account for my son (now 4 months) and it runs 108.00 per month. Good luck w/ everything. Let go and let God!!!

Because those people are ignorant.

Well you should go get WIC at least. Tax dollars pay for it and you pay taxes. Just ignor the ignorant people on here. Half dont know what they are talking about.

yes ive been there......but honestly going for medicaid is not a bad thing...... my 3 kids have been on medicaid through each pregnacy and childhood. Ive seen other children who thier parent dont have medicaid but they pay insurance and when thier child gets sick they cant even afford the copay to take them. Its been on the news lately how ALOT of states only half of the children get thier shots and yearly checkups. If i wasnt on medicaid when i was pregnant with my twins im not sure they would have ever gotten the care they did born premature then later finding out one had water on the brain and now has CP. The price of just general living now days if you qualify for free services there isnt a thing wrong with getting them. All i have to say is think about your child before your pride.

Ignore them.Sometimes you just gotta have some help.I had to be on medicaid while I was pregnant & my son is now on it.I don't feel guilty in the least.I pay taxes, always have.So why not use some of my own tax dollars to help myself along. Some people are just ignorant & choose to look down on anyone who is has to be on state assisant..

Just forget what they say because you don't have to prove anything to them. They're not going to pay your bills so if you want ride the damn wagon but you know that you are doing it for the better of your child so ignore the haters out there and do your thing

there is nothing wrong with needing some help everybody needs it its a part of life even if you have a full time job and get benifits! i am 32 weeks pregnant and i cant get on medicaid for the sake that my husbnad make to much. so the only way that i think that someone is using the system is they are lying and getting away with it! thats using the system! but you shouldnt be ashamed of it . so dont let your family and freinds put you down just because you need a lil help have a kid is NOT cheap! and they have to realize that also hope i helped you out !

It has become the American way to have other people pay for the carelessness of others. If a person cannot afford to have a child they shouldn't have gotten pregnant in the first place. Saying it was a accident is not an excuse for a child. Being careless unmarried people not taking the 2 seconds to put a condom is the problem. And now for the carelessness of the couple we as taxpayers will have to pay for their child.

People automatically assume that because 75% of the people who are on assistance ARE abusing the system. Even though there are many people (like you) who do work hard and just need a little help, those who take advantage make it look bad for those who are actually trying.

well, its something that's fairly common these days. the current welfare system rewards single mothers for having more children and for not working. given the right balance of children and rent, a single mother can have a free ride.

as for why people assume it, well, it's like cancer. lots of people get cancer but, the only cases you ever hear about are the ones where the patient dies. just because you get cancer doesnt mean you're going to die though. just because you're getting medicaid doesnt mean you're freeloading.

additionally, a lot of people have a big problem with social programs like medicaid.

such programs are rooted in socialism and are, by definition, unAmerican. Personally, though, I like such programs even though I think they need to be completely reformed.

yes, I been there its called starting out. And let me tell you its hard and expensive having kids. Please don't feel bad at least your child will have medical. Don't let what people think influence your decisions. Who cares if you get medical for her thru the state. That is exactly what it is for. NOT the ones who do abuse the system come here illegally get food stamps and work 5 jobs thats the ones who outta be ashamed. Good Luck with your new baby, my kids mean all to me and thats it! Also those people are just ignorant and prob old. We have to support their butts when they get old right??also wic is a good thing I only used it for the formula which they only helps a little and if you don't use it they will take the funding away and moms all over will suffer child care alone is outrageous. Also if you get married you wont qualify for anything! I want to go back to school cant afford it and they wont help because of my husband. Our income sucks, and theres no way I'm going to one of those colleges that gets u out in 6 months tacks on 13,000 dollars to my credit and I cant even get a job because those colleges flood the job market, preaching false hope to hard working people.
