Am I depressed or just lazy?

I think I have MAJOR issues. I am feeling a bit depressed, but I can't tell if its a genuine depression, or just me being lazy. There are so many things that I am unhappy about in my life right now. My boyfriend and I have been together 3 years, and I have been wanting to have a baby REALLY bad. It's not working, and he's becoming more on the fence about the whole thing. We argued 2 times this week and the arguments have been really nasty, but we are finally getting over them and getting better. I feel like our relationship is changing, and I feel like neither of us feels the same anymore....My job is crappy, I'm a legal assistant and I get shitty pay, and all I do is sit there ALL DAY and think about my problems because our office has been REALLY slow lately. So I have NO work to do....My car totally sucks and it's pretty much on its last leg, and I share it with my boyfriend AND we cannot afford to buy another car just yet. Maybe by the end of summer....I never ever just feel GOOD...

Anymore. I stayed home from work today because all I wanted to do was sleep and eat. Which I feel like is disgusting because I am already fat and I am having TONS of trouble losing weight. I just feel like nothing in my life is going right, and I get all excited about changing it, and then it all stays the same. Am I crazy for feeling this, or am I just a lazy person, who needs to get my butt in gear?

No your not depressed, your just just seem to me to be unhappy with your current situation there is a world of difference. Depression is a chemical inbalance in your brain, and i've been through a breakdown myself btw. you can be a multimillionaire and be depressed, depression doesnt care what material things you have or not, or whether your job is crappy. Your not gonna like my answer but sort the things in life out that make you unhappy, get a better job...even it means going back to studying, u mite have to start at the bottom and work your way up, it will get worse before it gets better but it the end it will be worth it. learn to enjoy the real things in life not what you have and what you dont (download nina simone-aintgotno,igotlife) :)

I had my thyroid checked and a host of other blood tests, and everything was fine pyshically. I do have major anxiety and was prescribed xanax, and I was also told to see a therapist, which I am doing! Thanks everyone! Report It

Please test your thyroid function. The symptoms you described seem to hypothyroidism, may be it only the beginning is treatable and you will feel well and remember me for good advice worth priceless.
And please, stop to insult yourself"just lazy". There is not a thing like this "just lazy" without a physiologic reason.
On the contrary, it seems to me that you are very intelligent person and have a rich soul full of human feelings.

I think you are depressed. You should try to do some exercise or moving around because you might be able to snap yourself out of it. If you don't then you will need professional help. Don't let yourself get used to this feeling. It's not good.

Best of luck to you. Don't be afraid to make some changes that may be needed to change your outlook. Life is so short as it is.

You need to exercise and that will start the endorphins pumping. You will be amazed at what getting in shape will do for you. It is a great feeling and things will start looking brighter. Start today.

Considering your situation, you have the prerogative to be depressed. Economic problems, relationship problems, employment problems, and other issues are bound to cause depression. Solving any of the problems will automatically have the effect of causing you to be less depressed. What should you do in the meantime? One solution is to take Saint John's Wort. It is an SSRI just like the drugs only without all the awful side effects. It's fairly inexpensive. It kicks in after 2 and half weeks. Liquid is better than capsules.

In 1998, Andrew L. Stoll, MD and his colleagues at Harvard University conducted a small double-blind placebo-controlled study in thirty patients diagnosed with bipolar disorder. Most subjects in this study were already undergoing psychopharmacological treatment (e.g. 12 out of the 30 were taking lithium). Over the course of four months, he gave 15 subjects capsules containing olive oil, and another 15 subjects capsules containing nine grams of pharmaceutical-quality EPA and DHA. The study showed that subjects in the n鈭? group were less likely to experience a relapse of symptoms in the four months of the study. Moreover, the n鈭? group experienced significantly more recovery than the placebo group. However, a commentary on the Stoll study notes that the improvement in the n鈭? group was too small to be clinically significant.[65] Though Stoll believes that the 1999 experiment was not as optimal as it could have been and has accordingly pursued further research, the foundation has been laid for more researchers to explore the theoretical association between absorbed n鈭? fatty acids and signal transduction inhibition in the brain.[66]

"Several epidemiological studies suggest covariation between seafood consumption and rates of mood disorders. Biological marker studies indicate deficits in omega鈭? fatty acids in people with depressive disorders, while several treatment studies indicate therapeutic benefits from omega-3 supplementation. A similar contribution of omega-3 fatty acids to coronary artery disease may explain the well-described links between coronary artery disease and depression. Deficits in omega-3 fatty acids have been identified as a contributing factor to mood disorders and offer a potential rational treatment approach."[67] In 2004, a study found that 100 suicide attempt patients on average had significantly lower levels of EPA in their blood as compared to controls.[68]
