Thought expiriment # 1 - Two candidates for political office, one who has 99% of your views, the other 1%?

The person who shares 99% of your views is running for political office against a person who shares only 1% of your views.

Who do you vote for?

Theres some addiditional information to consider,

The candidate with 99% of your views is an alcoholic, a drug user, and cheats on the spouse. These activities won't affect the ability of the political figure to be at the job every day when they are required to be present for voting, etc.

The other candidate who shares 1% of your views never drinks and drives but has a beer when its a social function, monogomous with their spouse, no drugs. Also able to show up on time.

Why would I consider someone's personal life instead of their professional skills?

It's none of my business what he does in his private time, as long as he does the job.

This question seems very illogicl to me. I don't see how it's possible for someone to share 99% of my views, when such views would keep me from being an alcoholic, drug user, and adulterer.

My views consist of living a Godly lifestyle, and striving towards self-betterment and compassion for others. This candidate does not seem to hold such convictions. Even if we agreed on everything else (which seems incredibly unlikely), I could very easily see myself voting for the other candidate.

The 99%er. In your theoretical world where his drugging and drinking and fornication doesn't affect his ability to serve, all that matters is his (her) abilities to perform the duties of office.

That was the case with Bill Clinton: he was a great president, and steered the country away from the recession brought on by 4 yrs of Bush Sr. Therefore I didn't really care where he stuck "little Bill" or how many White House aides got stuck: that was between him and Hillary, not between him and me.
