What is the best canister filter for a 29 gallon planted aquarium?

I have a 29 gallon planted aquarium with co2 injection and I want to upgrade to a canister filter. However I need one that is absolutely silent as it needs to go in a quiet office which I share with other people. Also do I need to configure the filter in some special way because of the plants in the tank. For example on the aquaclear I have in now, I was told to replace the charcoal with a second sponge because charcoal will kill the plants.

First of all, the activated carbon will not kill the plants, nor will it have any noticeable affect on the fertilizers you add to the water. Secondly, for that small of a tank, a canister filter probably isn't necessary, especially if it's well planted. Consider just getting a sponge filter attatched to a powerhead, as it is essentially the same thing. You can control the direction the powerhead pushes the water, so you can be sure it won't create too much surface agitation (which would release CO2 from the water), and the sponge filter provides all the filtration you really need for a heavily planted minimally fish-stocked tank.

If you feel obligated to get a canister filter, go for an older model of something small like the Fluval 104. It will cost a lot less than the newer models, and is basically the same thing. First, i dont think charcoal kills the plants, it might suck in the nutrients needed for the plants though.

second, get JEBO canister filter, look it up, its amazing, and almost all canister filters from known brands are based on JEBO's design....
