How do you handle a situation wherein you are in an office full of Spanish-speaking co-workers?

My Boss does not seem to mind it. But every morning when I come in to the office, they talk in Spanish and whenever I talk to them in English, they do respond in English and went back talking in Spanish again. I seem to adjust to the situation but analyzing everything, I feel like an outcast. Sometimes, I get paranoid, I think they are talking about me. I do feel offended that they don't want to share their little comments/secrets to me in English. My co-workers are US-born Hispanics and they are so fluent in English but they love to chit-chat in Spanish (especially if it's about our Boss and some co-workers). I am Chinese with Spanish descent and I am starting (like right here and right now) to brush-up my third language without them knowing it (for I love to see their owl-like eyes). But in the meantime, how would I tell them to minimize talking in Spanish without offending or being rude to them.

I did not say "stop talking Spanish" but MINIMIZE talking Spanish when there are non-Spanish speaking person around the office. Would it offend them too if I have a handful of Chinese co-workers and we start talking in Mandarin?

You can't tell them to stop speaking Spanish...just learn Spanish...trust me they are just more comfortable speaking Spanish...it's probably not about you...I have encountered this problem from time to time..(I'm Black and Cuban) some Hispanics don't realize this and will start speaking Spanish in front of me...for the most part..they were just nervous and thought I would criticize how they say things in English...So it's not you...Good Luck

Please understand that many Hispanics ...especially poor or working class Hispanics have been speaking Spanish since the 1600's in states like Texas or California...that is now being reinforced by recent migrations by new immigrants....it is a hard trend to stop.

Theres no way you could tell them to stop speaking Spanish amongst themselves without being rude.

The brushing up on Spanish idea is great though. If you get lucky you may overhear something interesting...

ummmm I woulden't say anything.. thats too racially charged..

just learn spanish and surprise them..
