Would Enlisted Government Officials Work for a Better America ?

I have this idea that will never be accepted, but I'd like to share a laugh with you at the thought of what it could be like.

My plan would require every Washington politician to first undergo basic training, then live together in military baracks, and receive enlisted pay during their two years of "elected active duty".

I believe in this plan. It will ensure that those in office are of the highest moral, physical, and patriotic stock. As an added benefit, the political officials will be face-to-face with their constituents (enlisted personnel) on a very personal level. They will experience life from the majority of America's point of view and respond accordingly.

Duty. Honor. Country.

If nothing else, it would make a great sit-com!

Not to burst your bubble, but as much as I respect our military, the system doesn't necessarily reflect the "highest, moral, physical and patriotic stock". If it did, there would not have been an Abu Ghraib...

The problem with civil servants today is that the good ones are busting their butts trying to make up for the bad ones and so they only manage to do a mediocre job when they'd otherwise be able to shine...

I think the best you would get out of this idea is a sitcom....
